I've read in some past threads that the rear coil suspension could drop approx 1" by switching stock (gas charged) shocks for aftermarkets such as the Rancho 9000s.

Any truth to this?

I just replaced my factory shocks with Rancho RS9000XL adjustable shocks this weekend. I can't tell if the truck was lowerered an inch but the Rancho RS9000XL seem to be great shocks. They can be set to ride very soft and plush as well as very firm and sporty. Very well worth the money.

no, it does not lower the truck, I have ran them on every one of my H2's/ coil sprung and air susp. no drop due to shocks.

Timgco what settings did you use for regular everyday driving. Just curious.

How much better of a ride do the Ranchos give you? Thinking I might pop for these if it will increase the comfort factor. I like that they're adjustable as I alternate weeks in town/on the farm.

5 front/ 4 rear when unloaded.

added the warn winch bumper and went to 7 and 6 to even out the ride a little better.

When towing I cranked the rears to 8.

Those seemed to work best for me.

I would start at 5 front and rear and go up from there.

make sure to add in the rancho steering stabilizer while your at. That made a huge difference as well.

Thanks Timgco. I have them set at 4 front and 2 rear and it is very cushy and cadillac like. I will probably stiffen it up a little though. What did the steering stabilizer do for your ride or handling exactly ?

less input/impact to the driver through the steering when hitting bumps....very noticable when offroad.

I feel this mod is worth worth it when you add larger tires, wider stance, wider wheels, or even just the stock setup. $85.00

When I added 37's to the stock wheel on my first H2, my factory one went out. The mechanic that found this (4 wheel parts), through the Rancho stabilzer on and it was night and day difference.

Since than, each truck got the Rancho 9000's and Rancho steering stabilizer. First mods I made to each truck. The install takes him all of 10 minutes to change that one out. I do the shocks myself. Takes about a half hour.

Actually, the rear height could get affected. The OEM shocks are high pressure charged at over 300psi each. The original while 9000s caused about 3/4" drop on the rear of my H2 as they were not pressurized at all. However Rancho has since switched to a cheaper way of producing the 9000s and now gas charges the new silver 9000s. Granted they are not 300psi each but there is some gas charging pressure in them now.

How would the shocks alter ride height?

It is my understanding that springs affect the height, not the shocks. Shocks don't sustain a static load.

Are you saying they DO sustain a static load? Anything to back that up other than anecdotal?

I bought Rancho steering stabilizer and RS9000XL shocks for front. Thought I'd see how I liked those before moving to rear.

I think maybe I should have the local mechanic install the steering stabilizer since it looks like it would be a lot easier to get to with the vehicle lifted (to get skid plate off, etc...) Thoughts?

Front shocks look easy enough......anybody know what the ft/lb torque should be for top nut and bottom bolt on those? Searched here & couldn't find....
