I am interested in a 2005 H2,I drive 5 miles each way to work.

My current car is 4000lbs and the fuel economy is below on what my current car is giving me.

Fuel economy: 13 mpg city/19 mpg highway

How does the H2 compare...?will it put a signifigant dent in my gas allowance.

When I bought my first Hummer in 2005.. I didnt buy it for mileage...

Best thing to do if worried about mileage is look at a nice Ford Escape Hybrid ... they are kinda like off road and close to same cool factor :fdance:

10 miles a day and you're worried about fuel economy? try out a scooter. 4 gallons of gas should last all week.

You say you live 5 miles from work, but that really isn't a meaningful number...

How many miles do you average annually? Will the H2 be your only vehicle?

Nothing wrong with being concerned about gas mileage, but do know upfront that the H2 is not an economical vehicle. It's a tool and it does its job very well, but economy wasn't one of the design criteria. Choose the right tool for the job to be done.

I always find it amusing when you ask a simple question and get smart assed answers. Like high school all over again. Anyway when I had my 03 i drove in mainly city traffic fora fourty mile commute and averaged 11.5 on the display.

I have had an 03 and have an 04 now and the computer always says between 11.9 and 12.9 miles per gallon. DON'T BUY A HUMMER IF YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT MILEAGE. I just filled up and it was $67.00, but then again I have a ridiculous government salary so I really don't care!:dancingbanana: :jump: :dancingbanana:

LOL...how long will that 67.00 last you though?
I am not really concerned...i am more curious to how much its gonna cost me a week to fill up.

wife drives it in town and gets 12. i get in it on the highway and get around 13 or so. drive it like its a big heavy ass suv and it will get about that. drive it like i do one of my mustangs and u will get about 3gpm:shhh:

it gets the same as our escalade did and my lifted f150 before that. seems like if u r going to get a big 4 wheel drive vehicle its going to get about 12

when ever the wife gets tired of it i think it would be fun to set the truck up the way gm should have in the first place with a duramax diesel. i wonder what kind of mpg u would get with that?

Your MPG figures may be a little different due to tire size change unless you have a handheld programmer to adjust for tire sizes. The programers adjust many more things on H2 so you can adjust rig to suit you.

We get anywhere from 10.5-12.5 with combined driving.... obviously lower in the winter with warming the car up and longer idle periods. In the middle of summer I usually tow my jet skis back and forth from the lake at least once so that all figures in there. On our road trip to Florida this summer my best was 14.48 (all highway).

The Hummer H2 is not an economic vehicle by any stretch, its around town mileage is not much worse than any other 3/4 ton + truck but with its superb aerodynamics (being sarcastic) it does suffer worse than others on the highway.

I agree with the above comment on how much you will be driving it annually to figure your total fuel expenses, if you are honestly this worried about fuel you may want to pass and this is why: If you are constantly worried about fuel it takes the fun out of driving one of these and second I can assure that gas prices will go up in the next 12-24 months...... its not if, its when. I was spending well over $100 to fill up when gas was over $4/gallon

Not trying to be a smart ass with my last paragraph.... just pointing out the obvious. If you need a large SUV but are ultimately looking for better economy maybe look at a Tahoe or Yukon with the displacement on demand..... my friend gets mid-high teens knocking around town (using E85) and around 20-21 on the highway with his loaded up 2007 Tahoe and its a very nice truck.

Good luck on whatever decision you decide to make:beerchug:

I haven't reset my lie-o-meter since June and it's reading 10.9 mpg, and I do a mix of about 65% urban 35% highway. I go through about 1500 gallons a year and enjoy every minute of it.

So 1500 gallons..average 3.50 a gallon....so averaging 450 bucks a month on gas...currently i spend abut 350 on gas on my SRT8...my question is ...is the H2 your daily driver?how many miles a week do you drive you think?

srt8? u mean a neon? :shhh:

sorry running joke with me and a friend how no one will ever admit to driving a neon. its always and srt8

best bet would be to keep the neon for a dd and drive the h2 when ever u wanted to. unless the money doesnt bother you. for me it will take a lot of gas to add up to another car payment

You are mistaking the srt4 for the srt8, the srt8 is not a neon but is the v8 425 horsepower version in the chrysler 300, charger, cherokee, etc etc

Buying fuel is no joke for most of us but I dont consider fueling the Hummers much at all since my boats fuel tank takes 150 GALLONS TO FILL IT UP .:crying:

FWIW my supercharged one has the diffs regeared with 38 inch tires and I dont see much difference over stock in economy since the mod. I dont try to give full acceleration unless I really need it so the numbers are about the same.

H2's are not that great on gas, everyone agrees. But just do the math and figure it out. Lets use a round number like $3.00 per gallon of gas. I think your mentioned you get about 16MPG in your car. So.....
Example: 10,000 miles per year.
H2 @ 12 MPG @ $3.00 = $2,499
Your car @ 16MPG @ $3.00 =$1875
Difference of $624.00
Can you affored the extra $624 per year ? or $52 a month?or $13 a week? or $1.85 a day?
Stop buying that cup of coffee in the morning on the way to work and you'll love your H2.

Long story short....My 05 H2 lease came up and I turned it in for a Trail Blazer SS.Gas was $3.99 around here and said I didnt need to be paying for high gas anymore. So.....after owning my Trail Blazer SS ( whch got 15-16MPG) for 3 months I turned it in for a used 06 H2 LE. I just couldnt live with out one. End of story!

Getting 11.5 per the DIC and thats pretty much around town driving. I am not light on the gas pedal either. Like Intercooled said, do the math. There are plenty of other trucks etc that get worse mileage then the H2 but nothing compared to the H2.

I've been laughing at this post, and just had to chime in! Let's see, if he drives a Prius, he could save 300% on his gas bill to drive to work. At 50 miles a week, that would add up to $10.50 a week at $3.00 a gallon. If it ever goes to the point where I have to worry about $10.00, PLEASE SHOOT ME !!!!!!!!!!
