My 04 H2 has 60,000miles on it. I think I'm going to change out all the fluids to synthetic (unless not reccomended) Would you guys reccomend Royal Purple, Amsoil, or something different? Thanks!

i'd recommend that also... the german made 0W-30 (which is near 40 viscosity when hot). you can get it at auto zone. make SURE it says "made in germany" on the back of the bottle (it's in small print). i've been using it in my LS engined Corvettes for years, great used oil analysis.

this thread will go on and on  , but I only use RP oil in all my cars. That and redline are the two best oils you can buy. If not one of them I would use Mobil 1 it's the next best.

Engine: Mobile 1 Syn and K&N oil filter
Everywhere Else: Royal Purple

I pick up a couple cases of mob 1 at Costco when they do thier money off coupon...makes it cheap!:beerchug:

The truth 1st choice is Royal Purple in everything as I have since 2006. They make product for all applications I think. It is carried by NAPA and they are picky. Also Horse Power TV did an experiment with a late model camaro before they stopped making them and found a 8HP gain, mpg gain, and other things. I watched it and was stunned at all improvements.

I run SC high HP etc. and would run nothing else but, RP.

2nd choice would be Redline.

I use valvoline syn tech. I would say any synthetic is better than reguilar oil and fluids.

When running synthetic, how often do you change the oil?

I'll usually go about 4K then change it. I'm old school and like to have fresh fluids. The Oil change indicator will usually say around 50-40% oil life left. I was always a 3k guy with regular oil.

Do not use any synthetic fluid in your power steering pump! I changed out everything in my 05 H2 with synthetic and 2 weeks after driving around I had to completly flush out the P/S fluid. With the synthetic fluid it would make funny noises and lock up on me when pushing the brake pedal. I was thinking it was the pump going bad so replaced it and put synthetic fluid back in. Didn't fix the problem - flushed it out and put regular fluid in it - works fine. Left the new pump on it but i am perty sure the fluid was the problem.

This my be wrong, but I change my oil the first of every year. This year I have 3,400 miles on a 2004. I use mobil 1 extended life. Have it washed, waxed and been checking prices on detailing the inside this year.

Still loving the drive,
Vern :notallthere:

So, you only put 3400 miles on it this year? Or you you have a total of 3400 miles?

I use Royal Purple in most everything I own except never in differentials or manual transmissions, for some reason Royal Purple seems to need to heat up before it will let the synchros fully engage on manual transmission so for those I only use Redline. Amsoil is also a good synthetic but Royal Purple is not only a synthetic but it also has high levels of Zinc.... I know because I was having problems with turbos on one of my motors and I had a lab do a chemical breakdown of my oil to look for mineral and metal deposits.
