More GM bull-@#$% ?? My wifes 2005 H2 is stranded in Tampa. She stopped at a rest stop and when she came back to the car she started it up no problem, however the shifter has no tension, the gear indicator on the dash does not come out of park and the car wont move. The cable is broken! We had AAA tow her to a dealer and of course they wont be back till Monday. Does anyone know if this is a recall item? Has anyone else had this problem? What did it cost to fix? Thanks for the help in advance....:beerchug:

I fixed mine in the driveway. It took about a hour and the cable was like $40-$50. Easy job. It is probally the plastic clip that attaches to the tranny that broke.

The is really simple, about a 2 out of 10 in difficulty. I took pictures along the way and will post step by step how to fix the problem Monday. In the mean time the vice grips worked like a champ. I bought the cable, but did not feel like fooling with it for some time so i lazily kept the vice grips on for about 3 weeks. Granted I had an extra set in the truck just in case, but I would certainly deep the vice grip method to be a good patch until the cable comes in(not normally stocked).

I will agree, it is very frustrating that .03 plastic retainer deal causes failure which leaves your vehicle immobilized.

we will have to wait for Monday to see if they have the cable or can get it. I am about 200 miles away and my wife left it with a chevy dealer in Tampa :jump:

can just the clip be replaced or does the whole cable have to be changed??

How many miles on your H2?

I never post, but read this site for a lot of info. But, figured I would let you know that it happened to my 05 H2 as well over the weekend. Cost was about $300 to repair. Not aware of any recall info. I bought mine from Reeves Tampa as well.

Reminds me of all those plastic clips that just fall apart like the tailgate latch plastic clips that hold the rods on place.... all the good parts and all the cheapest. just buy a few extras and keep them around (you will need them someday)

X2!!!

I about half retarded when it comes to working on vehicles and im confident I did it in under an hour and im confident I could easily do the next one in 30-45 mins. A decent mechanic should be able to finish this job 15-30 mins IMO.

Anyone got instructions on how to remove cable, looks easy enough.
