Yeah, chrome grill is too much. What I really want to do is put a rubber duck or demon guard on the front, just to hide some of the chrome (I like a little chrome), but it's not in the budget right now....

I understand..wouldn't a rubber duck be much more than a demonguard? I wonder what roush's rates are on the demonguard? But if you had both the white grille AND the hugh brush guard you'd be killin it!!

At the end of the day, I have come to the realization that black on black is the only way to go. I have been looking for the right place to do paint, but it may be a while due to $$$.
I had to add the toy Hummer too like Bimmer, my wife bought it and had a body shop custom match the factory paint and paint it to match mine and surprised me with it as one of the toppers on our wedding cake, it was awesome.

Of course! Broke a CV just last month too add. Forgot to mention that I pulled the air system and am rocking coils underneath with Bilsteins too because the air system couldn't hang where I was needing to go when I am back and forth from Idaho to Utah. Too bad the pics don't do justice to some of the minor body damage, hence the motivating factor in spending a grip to repaint.
I understand washing, taking care of, and babying your truck as these are all things I do as well, but let's not forget why we bought these things in the first place. If your not using it, then there is no reason to make all of these kinds of adds in my opinion. :notallthere:

Yah, I saw your pics on that a while ago before I picked up the spare carrier, so I was trying to find a solution to that before I got the spare carrier as I had concerns about whether it would fit the 40" or not. Didn't want to go roof mount because I was packing on the roof before I got the new rack and didn't like hearing the spare bouncing and shaking around up there. Also didn't like the pressure I saw it putting on the rack itself.
I ended up getting this swing arm off of a friends '08, $100, so you know I couldn't pass that up. Problem now is finding someone that can fabricate and do a clean job like yours because I really don't like how low it sits, looks kind of stupid.I also wanted to place a slight slant on it towards the vehicle. My offroad shop here does not fabricate so I am taking the time to find a decent shop. Had to do so much modding on my own with stuff already that I don't want to get into it unless it is going to be durable and clean. I have more modding yet that needs to be done so if you know of a good shop in my area, pass me a name.
BTW, love the rig man; nothing like a real man's Hummer.

H2Much,
How did you get enough clearance to fit the 40" tire on the stock swingarm? I needed spacers to fit my 38X13.5" Toyo. I'm assuming your's is 15.5" wide?
Thank you,

Charles, I don't really know what to say about that. I had a major concern with the wheel and tire fitting before I got the swingarm, so I was looking around for a special one to accomodate. When my friend picked up his '08, he said he didn't want the swingarm. He had 37's on there and said it fit no prob, so I took him up on it. When I went over to get it we through my 40" on there and it fit perfectly, no problems at all, so I can't really say what the deal is unless it is the offset on the rim.
And yes, the tire is 15.5" wide, so it really must be the wheel offset I am thinking with those rockstars. Other than that, no modification to it at all.
It is also possible that they changed the swingarms in the later year models to accomodate larger tires, but I am not sure. I would go and ask a Hummer dealer, but they are extinct.

well, i have the chevy green torsion keys for the front to raise it about 2", and i was thinking of doing spring spacers for the rear. just to lift the rear about 2 more inches. that with the 37's, i think that should give me the look im wanting. and new shocks off course

Chales06, all the difference in the world is the offset of the wheels. H2Much is running Rockstars, those are 20x12 WITH a -44mm offset, that means they stick out outwards more giving those sick 40s some room to roll, plus do the math... think of a fat chick trying to pull a Beyonce move in a skinny jeans... it ain't gonna work and definitely not gonna look good. you need to give a 15.5" wide tire some room to play, 9" is not enough (that's what she said!).:D
What you're running is only 20x9... with a -12mm offset....... Honestly my friend (IN MY OPINION!!!!) you should never run anything less then a -24mm with a 10" wide wheel with equivalent tire thickness to go with it if you want your rig to look ... like this guy >:raar:
Just my $0.02.

That's what I figured. The offset on my KMC Hoss's is pretty good, but I still need spacers to fit a 13.5" tire on the carrier. I didn't think the Rockstars' backspacing was that much more than the Hoss's. I'll have to look it up.

They're 2 different size 20" Rockstars... 20x10 with -24mm and 20x12 with -44mm.... which IMO it looks way sicker..

The important part is the backspacing, not the offset. Offset is measured from the outside of the wheel to the hub, so a wider wheel will always have a higher offset. Backspacing is measured from the hub to the inside of the wheel.
In other words, two different wheels can have completely different offsets, but if their backspacing is the same, ideally, they should fit the same...I think.
My eyes just crossed...

i detail cars, so the first thing i notice about a car is how hard or easy it is to clean it. and i must say, the hummer is by far the hardest to clean/detail of any other trucks/suv i have owned. your truck looks great though.

Torsion Keys up front and some custom spacers in the rear along with 37's. I didn't want to go overboard like I did with my Jeeps...keep the Hummer a good street performer and make it a little bit better looking. I'm happy with the size it sits at right now. Looks close enough to stock but more aggressive :excited: Of course there where some other mods I had to do with the rear, like modify the trackbar to center the axle and of course shocks. Indy

did you go with the green keys? how much did you lift the front? i have th green keys, but im waiting till i get my 37's before i do more of a lift. but i was wanting to do about 2-3" up front and then a 2" spacer in the rear with all new shocks all the way around. you have the perfect look with yours.
I don't recall the company who made the torsion keys for mine, but it sits about 2.5"-3" higher...hard to say, since all the torsion bars are adjusted a bit differently from the factory. Just make sure there is still some axle drop present...there is a metal bump stop which will limit its downward movement and you want some gap there. Rear are 3" spacers. Cheers, Indy.

I love the 6.2 motors. My grandpa had a escalade with it and hauled pretty good for a heavy truck. I wish hummer would have put the 6.2 in the 07 year like cadillac did. I like the 6.0 but the extra hp has to be noticeable on the 08+. Plus its sounds pretty bad ass.

I love the 6.2 in mine. But honestly h2's NEED a duramax with an Allison tranny. I mean I understand it would cost more but it people are paying this much for this gas guzzler, why not spend a little more and get a BEAST with 20 mpg? I never understood why they didn't do that in the first place.

Just to throw in some more sass on the lifting discussion... if you are going to lift, I suggest you go with the 6". What happens is you decide to go not so big, just enough to get tire clearance. This is what I did the first time, think I went with the skyjacker 5.5". Anyway, I was getting a little rubbing from the 37's, not much though. Over time, you keep looking at it and you think it could be a little meaner, a little more tougher, so you start thinking bigger wheels, bigger tires, etc. What happens is you end up switching things up and running out of space- lift is maxed, keys are torqued, and there is no more room. You are already in it to deep to drop everything and throw on a bigger lift.
6" is perfect, lets you get up to 40's minimal rubbing and it really looks the best in my opinion. Really balances the size of the truck with the wheels under it without making it look like a redneck monster truck. It's a good look though, looks even better if you drop the side steps. I really wanted to go with Bimmer's 24x40 look, but that was costing an extra few thousand to go that route over my current one, so I stuck with the 20's. Either way, from my experience it is just better to give yourself some breathing room and go with a 6" from the start. Trust me, if you go lower than that, you will pay for it over time second guessing and changing stuff up to get closer to that look. I know I still am.
By the way, nice cars guys! My marriage cut me short of the black on black sports car; was really looking to get into a black on black Lotus Evora. Guess I can only hope for that promotion at work.

When you did that, did you have your bodylift installed?
Speaking of body lifts, did you install it or have the company that made them for you install it?
I’m going to be ready for new tires soon and 40’s would be a perfect fit. I have 37’s or 38’s on there now and I could probably go another 1-2” more. I’d say 39’s (if there was such a thing) would be perfect.

@ Mark
Before my body lift.
The 40's fit with my Rancho kit and Truxxx leveling kit and rear spacer. I run 24x12 Rockstars and they rubbed turning. I didn't want to trim in fear of hacking up the wells, I ended up trimming just 2" off the bottom. If you do run the keys I would highly recommend the Cognito upper A arms, (which you already have) to make it easier to align and correct the angles. If memory serves me correctly Mark you are running a 20x10 XD wheel. I think your rubbing would be very minor if you went 40's (with the Truxxx keys and spacers). I remember you upgraded from the 35" Mickey Thompsons to 37" Toyos. I just like a lot of wheel well gap so it doesn't look stuffed, so I did the 2" BL and have articulation room when pulling up an incline while turning since I run such a wide wheel.
I had Rides of Conover NC to it. Speak to Brandon if you want it done, they said they wouldn't bother buying a complete 03-05' 2500 HD kit since most of the kit is not used. Just buy the pucks and bolts. The steering extension that came with my kit was installed, but they said wasn't necessary on a 2" BL. The rear hitch and bumper assembly was raised with 2" stock, I played with it to make it perfect, but they did a great job overall.

I LOVE the stance of your truck. The gapping and spacing is perfect. Since power isn't an issue for me, I'm not worried about a taller tire an having less gear ratio. (of course, 4.56 gears don't hurt either...lol)

i was just looking at that rancho 4" lift kit. it says you cant use the stock wheels with the kit? why is that?
Bimmer9938
10-24-2011, 04:02 PM
I think cause it utilizes taller spindles (or steering knuckles) that would normal fit inside the wheel barrel so an aftermarket wheel with a lower offset would fit next to it. The Ranch is higher then 4" btw, they just market it that way.

Fabtech's website lists the correct backspacing needed for their kits. I understand you're not using Fabtech's kit, but it might give you an idea of what to look for. Again, everyone is looking at offset only, and I understand it's what wheel manufacturers list, but we should be looking at backspacing AND offset. If you find a wheel you like, call and get the specs. A 10-20 minute phone call can save a lot of hunting around and headaches later...
There is also a tech article on another website (don't think I'm allowed to post it here) that describes the requirements for the Fabtech lift. PM me and I'll direct you there.
I keep thinking of things to add. When I purchased my truck, the previous owner had 37's with 22" wheels, and they rubbed. I changed to 38's on a 20" wheel, and avoided rubbing my sways by changing to a correct backspacing. I also lifted my truck a bit more, but that has nothing to do with the sway bar issue.

Just wanted to clarify some mis-information I posted earlier. I was correct on backspacing being measured from the inner lip/back of the wheel to the hub. But offset is measured from the center of the wheel, NOT the hub, to the outter lip/front of the wheel. Essentially, the dead center of the wheel is a 0 offset, and a -12 offset moves the hub closer to the inner lip/back of the wheel. A +12 offset would move the hub closer to the outter lip/front of the wheel. Hope I cleared up any confusion I caused. And I didn't want to look like an idiot. :D
*By "hub" I'm referring to the part of the wheel where the lug nuts go, not the hub on the truck.

Welders typically aren't that expensive...
...then get it powder coated and call it a day.
A local welding shop charged me $75 to mod my stock carrier to lift the tire up. http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41378&highlight=carrier
You just need a couple cross bars and a mounting point; which you could have cut from your stock arm...dunno...food for thought.

The company that does most of my work moddified one of the above pictured bed bar set-ups to carry a spare. The guy had it on for a couple of years, but ended up ditching it because it rendered the bed useless.
I disagree with most of the opinions here. I like the look of the rear tire carrier. Without it, the truck looks too short, almost like someone smooshed it.

I see your point but I personally like the fact that I don't have to swing my spare carrier open everytime I want to drop the tailgate. Plus I think it makes the truck seem wider ;) gotta love fat rear ends. Well..to some extent. But it's all personal preference!

Nice Mark, are they rubbing? Mine rubbed like crazy with 12" wide wheels.
The only time they rub is if I have the wheel turned all the way to the right and go in reverse, you can juuuust hear them rub. You would think if they rubbed, they would rub in either direction.
... but like I said, haaardly.
So you?re not running 12?s? How wide are you running?

I do run 12's, so they would rub more when turning then your 10's. Yea mine would catch the fender liners in reverse so I had to trim a lil off. Plus the Super Swamper is a true 40" measuring 40" which doesn't help.

No I didn't opt for the 9000s. I don't need adjustability. I got it on my Camaro and I only change it when I race it. I figure the adjustable shocks on the hummer would probably stay at the same setting as the 5000 would be. Did you install the kit yourself?

How do you like the super chips programmer? Cant you calibrate the speedo with the new wheels with the programmer? My buddy has been telling me to get a custom tune but I'm kinda leaning towards something like super chips or some other programmer. Any suggestion?
tyler1bo
01-01-2012, 08:02 PM
I have the flashpaq and so far it's been great..yes I can recalibrate the speedo but I can't have a performance tune with the tire size change on it :( right now I'm just using the performance tune, which is a nice noticeable difference from stock.

01-01-2012, 08:05 PM

tyler1bo
01-01-2012, 08:25 PM
there probably is..and I can probably do some advanced tune where I change a bunch of things at one time, but for now I'm just using the factory settings on the tuner. It's not bothering me at the moment, and all I really need is the speedo calibration anyways.

2010_5thgen
01-26-2012, 06:42 PM
Personally I think a 6 inch lift is too much. The 4 inch lift from Rancho is perfect. Throw on some 38s and you have an inch and a half more than you had stock.
tyler1bo
01-26-2012, 07:00 PM
I think fabtech and rancho are pretty similar as far as the amount of lift. I think my truck sits up more than just 4". I haven't measured that but my truck seems taller for sure, course I am running keys and a 1.25" coil spacer in the rear. But overall that should pick my truck up about an inch. I think either lift is good whatever you choose! Fabtech will probably be sliiiightly taller, but other than that..not much difference.
2010_5thgen
01-26-2012, 07:12 PM
well of course yours sits more than 4"...your running spacers on the lift :giggling: and running 38" tires will give you more height also. running a 35 would give you a 4" lift with the rancho. but running 37's will give you 1 more inch and 38's will give you 1.5" more, and 40's will give you 2.5" more height.
tyler1bo
01-26-2012, 07:24 PM
haha..i know that! ;) My truck measures 7'3" I think from the top to floor..measure yours like that and lets see our differences (don't measure in the roof racks). Yours should be about an inch lower I would think ;)
2010_5thgen
01-26-2012, 07:28 PM
I measured mine the other day to see if I could fit in the car wash. I'm just under 7'. Not counting roof racks. But I'll remeasure to confirm.
tyler1bo
01-26-2012, 07:35 PM
Gotcha..I also measured from the driver side, directly in the middle of the truck, to the ground. I think before I was sitting approx. 6'8", if that measurement was true, then I'm 7" taller. So that would make sense that the rancho is 4", because the other 3" came from the tires. But just measure yours and see what happens. I'll remeasure mine too.

Yes, you have to drill holes. My flares have actually cracked around a few of the screws, but only a little. But the cracks haven't gotten worse over the last few years.
How well do the flares keep everything from flinging up on your truck(doors and hood)? My truck is a mess after driving in a bit of mud. Literally all over the truck. I need to stop it a bit and I think those larger flares like yours would be perfect. And I like the look of them without the rear mud flap..

Thanks for all the compliments. And thanks for posting the pictures! I can never figure out how to do that.
The flares work better than stock, obviously, but with the higher offset wheels, wider tires, and the lift kit, you still get stuff thrown up on the side.

So I'm screwed either way? Does it still get on your hood? There's just no stopping the mess I guess. But they did help a lot......right? I just need to restrict the mud a bit. I'm probably not gonna stop it but hopefully more than I am now.

I've gotta ask..what's going on with your cab lights?
charles06
02-23-2012, 04:09 AM
They do help, but how much will depend on wheel offset, tire width, etc.
I assume you're talking about the rear two cab lights being red? They were all smoked at one point, then I backed into my garage trying to inch in to unload the bed, cracked one, and put the red ones back on. I wasn't going to buy a whole kit of smoked for two lenses. I pulled the bulbs out years ago, anyhow...

I must have not experienced the flinging you're talking about..course mine has been nasty for awhile and the only time I remember it flinging stuff everywhere was when I deliberately took it mudding. But as far as around town driving I haven't really noticed it on mine..same as always. Try the E&G flares though! It would look great with your rig.

I'm assuming you bought the Recon lights? Mine leaked when I first put them in, fitment was terrible, had to silicone the living mess out of them because it was fixin to drown my nav dripping in through the dome light in the center ;( Recon did a sh*tty job with the cab lights as far as fitment..

I can't remember the brand. I got them about 4 years ago. But, yeah, mine leaked, too, so I had them sealed.

They look exactly like mine so I'm guessing they are Recon. Hey how hard was it to change your door handles?

I didn't change my door handles. They were black when I bought the truck.

So I'm pretty sure I got flipped off today..couldn't tell for sure but I could have sworn I saw the hand gesture through this douche bags heavily tinted windows. I had all my windows down just minding my own business and this guys rolls around going the opposite way in a jacked up Tacoma with one gay a$$ bumper on the front. Some tough guy right there. It sort of pissed me off, especially since he did it through his tint and in that piece of sh!t he called a truck.

I get a lot of nasty looks since the lift. I was at the BMV the other day and read a guys lips as he walked past my truck. He said " What the fu@k. Why would you do that" lol. It was kinda funny.

A few years ago when I moved into this house, I was driving to work. As I passed this Mustang, the woman flipped me off. I thought at first she must have me mistaken for someone else. (like there?s so many white lifted H2?s)
On the second day, she drives past me at roughly the same point and flips me off again. WTF?
The third day the same thing... now I?m getting pissed. She just don?t know me.
On the fourth day, I saw her coming, hit the gas and JERKED into her lane.
Dude, I?m telling you, that fukkin? mustang spun sideways and landed on somebody?s lawn.
I never did see her again. Fukkin ****. She won?t be the first person I?ve run off the road and I promise she won?t be the last.

Man, they just don?t know me... I ran a brand new Honda Accord into the woods and got called into the police dept when I lived up at the lake because a guy wouldn?t get over out of the left lane so I drove him into the woods.
I pushed a guy with my truck when he wouldn?t get out of the left lane.
I don?t mess with people, I respect the fact that they want to go under the speed limit or don?t drive the way I do but fuk with me, I won?t think twice about pushing you into the Goddammm ditch.

hahaha..that made me laugh :giggling: And people don't even know yours is a diesel. But they wouldn't do it to a 2500HD..what's the difference? Just because they saw you driving an H2 automatically makes you an a$$hole? Maybe their prius battery will explode, no one even knows how to put one of them out if it does catch fire. Talk about lethal..

Here?s another problem, there are 3 jeeps in my family and the best one gets 14 mpg on the highway. How the hell is that any better than an H2? Forgetting mine is a diesel, does a couple of miles to the gallon make it that much better??
And as far as those ******* environmental Prius bitches, wait until they spend 7K for new batteries or 3K for ?reconditioned? batteries. Let?s see who hurts the environment more.
