View Full Version : Hummer wave

I'm sure this has been posted already but am I the only one that waves or acknowledges other H2's. I can't tell you how many times I've waved and watched the other driver go by completely oblivious that another H2 was even on the road. I'm not sure what the problem is but I will continue to wave as long as I own it.

I ALWAYS do the Hummer wave to another Hummer. Guys in the H2 are good about returning the wave, but women and H3 owners rarely wave back.

It's the girls that screw it up! Ladies, we need you on board- especially when you see a real man driving down the road that takes the time to acknowledge you.
There are always the rich snooty guys that buy the Hummers just because they have money to waste and they just use it as part of their other 20 cars. They don't seem to appreciate the league they are part of either...

I asked that same question when I piced up my Rig. Eight years later driving in NJ, NY, NV and passing through lots of other States I can say that there were very few HUMMER waves. Prior to getting the H2 I had a 4 Corvettes and a Porsche 911 and always got waves from other owners. I'm not sure what happened with HUMMERS but like DRTYFN said:

yeah I tried to wave to a fellow h2 driver on the high way, I got next to him and tried to wave, he just ignored me and sped off.
But, atleast I tried! Won't stop me from waving to another hummer owner.
I did see an h3 driver at a red light, he had his window down and his music blasting, i yelled to him that i liked his h3, and he thanked me

I wave to H2's regularly, with mixed results, probably 50/50. I don't wave at H3's, but if they wave I will wave back. To me, they are not in the same league as H2's, they can wave to their H3 buddies all they want.

I believe the lack of a wave has more to do with other Hummer drivers not being able to see the wave than it has to do with their lack of camaraderie. It is pretty dark inside a Hummer cab. A well intentioned wave is hard to see.

A few days after I bought my truck I got a wave from a guy in another H2 and I thought "Okay...this is going to be like the Harley-thing...cool." Years and several attempts later I've only got about three or four other waves.
I've found that most dudes driving stock H2s seem to be oblivious. Granted the windows are usually tinted, so it's hard to see for sure, but there seems to be zero effort. Most of my waves, nods, compliments have come from dudes driving modded H2s. Too bad there's not more of them around my area...
And I don't think most women drivers even 'get' the concept. I say most, and not all. I had one pull up next to me just the other day (in a truck that looked like mine, but stock) and yell in my window "Nice fukin' truck, man!" She got the concept...and a wave.
H3 owners...? I don't know what's up with those dudes. I think most of them in my area suffer from the I5 Complex, Hood Handle Envy, or are Marker Light Wannabes. I've never gotten a wave, nod, smile, or anything from those guys.
And there's only about three H1s that I know of around my way...I get the thumbs up from the dude in the white M1165 with the lift and the 42s every time. I haven't seen the other two on the road yet...so we'll see.
But I agree with gasman:
You've also got to understand that a fair amount of other HUMMER drivers who aren't HUMMER enthusiasts (a driver and enthusiast are not the even the same animal) don't share the same feeling of brotherhood that we all do. There loss.

I always try the wave on H1 and H2 owners and occasionally at modded H3's. seems only those who are modded even notice they're on the road with another hummer. I feel like wayyyy more people returned the wave years ago as compared to now.
I also get occasional waves from other modded offroad rigs(Jeeps fj's ect.) which is nice to see every once in a while

Personally, I think its starnge! Flashing lights and waving at strangers:giggling: ....and you wonder why they just keep on driving. Not everyone loves this unit as much as some of us here. Its just another vehicle, so you appear strange when you are waving outta control and flashing hi-beads at them.

This is funny to be reading...the week I bought my H2 I was driving thru a stripmall parking lot when I swore another H2 driver waved at me. I wasnt sure if I saw what I thought I saw, but being from TX, I know we are very friendly and I figured one of two things, either: he waved because I was rockin an H2, or because he was just being friendly because I was a woman?! Either way I found it refreshing to see one stranger being friendly toward another. I must say, I've always wanted Hummer and I absolutely love mine. Proud to finally be part of the fam. Waves to come........

Yeah...flashing can be confusing. In my neck of the woods:
One or two quick flashes: "Your high beams are on."
Three + quick flashes: "YOUR HIGH BEAMS ARE ON, A55HOLE!"
Heads lights on, then off, then on again: "Cop ahead. Watch out!"
If you wanna say "hello"...you gotta wave or nod.

Do you drive around with your high beams on??? :giggling:
I only flash or get flashed (we're talking about headlights right?) regarding high beams or hidden cops. If I got flashed and had my low beams on I would assume there is a cop ahead, and would get confused after driving a few miles at exactly the speed limit looking for cops and not seeing one.

People ahead of me do get upset because my lights are right in their mirrors.

I get flashed all the time at night, people think the high beams are on. During the day I would not flash my lights unless I was warning someone ther was a cop ahead. Back to the wave.... I always try to acknowledge my fellow H2 brothers by either flashing the lights when I see them coming the opposite direction or waving if I am heading in the same direction on the road. I never ever, ever never, ever ever, I mean never, cut off my fellow H2 brothers and sisters. I have too much love for them.
I am always on the road traveling back and forth from VA to South Jersey. I am now up to 110,000 miles in 3 years, without an issue.
On a different note, I recently decide to start going car shopping to supplement my H2. It was an awful experience. All I kept doing was comparing the vehicles to my H2. I kept saying, why am I so low to the ground, why is everything so close, etc, etc.
I have come to the realization that either I will have to get another H2 or buy an armored truck and customize it. I don't think my wife will let me buy an armored vehicle and park it in the garage.

I think it all goes back to the 'enthusiast' comment earlier in this thread. Enthusiasts usually have an interest on a level that makes them more involved/vested in things like: what it can do, how it works, how to make it better, its lineage, etc. This interest oftentimes extends all the way out to other owners and their trucks.
Chroming these trucks out, IMO, doesn't put the owner in the enthusiast category...in MOST cases. I know a lot of dudes that have 'chromed out' Corollas...but they're not Corolla enthusiasts; they just like shiny things and happen to live near an Autozone. I think that's why you don't get a lot of waves from chromers.
The owners that bought their truck for what it can do, not what they thought it symbolized are the ones that I find wave the most...especially if they think you're of a like mind. The problem is, unless it's running over-sized tires and got mud up the side it's hard to tell what kind of owner you're looking at.
...lately I've been branching out, I wave at any jacked up dirty truck. I get a lot more waves back...I guess it goes back to the 'like minded' thing...that big tire, big truck, 4-wheel drive, dirt road mentality.

I cant stand the guy, but ill accept him as part of the hummer community. chrome or not...its a hummer and they all are accepted in the community. as stupid as it sounds, the color of the wheels has nothing to do with being an enthusiast. you guys are too wrapped up on "chrome wont get you home" and all this other BS. im not a fan of chrome on some cars. like my camaro. but i dont make fun of or tell someone that chrome on your car means your not an enthusiast......

WOW! Ok...
Perhaps I should start by clarifying my usage/definition of the term 'chromer.' In my opinion a chromer is anyone who goes out of their way to replace, coat, and cover as many accessories as they can on their truck with some form of plastic or metal chrome. I'm not referencing those of us that sport the stock chrome packages; hell, if I was, then I was a chromer for years while I rocked the chrome grill, brushguard, side-steps, and mirrors.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=chromer
Now, back to my response: By definition an enthusiast is simply a person who is filled with absorbing or controlling possession of the mind by any interest. Can a chromer be an enthusiast? Sure. Can a stocker? Sure. Hell, even that Corolla-owner can be a Hummer enthusiast. Anybody can...
I merely said, "chroming these trucks out, IMO, doesn't put the owner in the enthusiast category..." I'm not saying that it 'excludes' them from being an enthusiast; I just wouldn't automatically lump them into the category because I see they've spent a couple Gs to bling up their ride.
That said, I admit that I do use chrome as an 'indicator'...I have found, in my opinion and in my neck of the woods, that those who bear the loads of chrome tend to be enthusiastic only about being seen and noticed and would prolly be just as happy in a chromed out Navigator. In my experience they usually are not 'Hummer' enthusiasts (they just want some paparazzi)...hence the non-waving.
SIDE NOTE: I bet they'd wave at me if I was in that chromed out Gator.
In the end it's to each his own...this thread was just trying to dissect the possible motives behind the wavers and the wave-nots.
PS: But the chrome really won't get you home...well, unless you're stranded, then I guess it would reflect the spotlight from the search chopper better then some of the blacked out rigs.
...just POKING FUN! ...but seriously... :D

I love the sound of a beefy v8! The VQ engine on the Z has a distinct sound which is what I like, with the exhaust combination (test pipes, Xpipe, true dual, cams) it helped give the car a more "exotic" sound.

there is alot of chrome ive seen in catalogs and on line for these trucks. i hate it how companies make this junk. the sad thing is that people actually buy it. it was the same case with my camaro. lots of companies made nasty aluminum and chrome pieces to stick in every crack of the car. i like the chrome that gm put on the hummer, but i dont like the other add ons. like the gill chrome on the front fender or the rear vent chrome. just looks like a bit much. i debated for a long time whether or not to get chrome or black wheels. and i went with chrome because unless i blacked everything out, the black wheels wouldnt have looked right. so i went chrome. they should look great

Dude, you really couldn't get much lighter than me. You're the one who seems to wanna be the den mother around here...policing everyone's statements.

I get flashed once ALL the time around town..knowing full well there isn't a cop up ahead (not that i'd be speeding anyways)..my high beams are never on so I flash them back as to say, HERE'S MY BRIGHTS!! QUIT FLASHING ME! :) haha

Are you leveled or lifted? If so, did you ever re-adjust your headlights?
I used to get flashed after leveling...I tweaked them down a bit. I still get it once in a while...I hit those dudes with everything (high beams + off road lights)...and a wave (which they can't see, because it's dark...lol)
