Parasitic current draw

Well I had enough of the dead battery from my parasitic current draw. I tried to hunt it down and tried all different types of troubleshooting techniquies with no luck.

I solved my problem and though I would share.

you can search off my name, i've had a bunch of issues in the past. Everytime its always been some accessory I added that was before the factory fuse block where you would be taking all the readings.

New poster but I may be able to help. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Connect one end of the test light to the cable and the other end to the battery. Close all the doors and make sure the truck is off. If the test light lights up you have a draw. Start removing fuses until the light goes out. That is the circuit that is causing the draw.
You will have a draw from the clock in the radio but it usually is not enough to light up the test light. If you have a multimeter hook it up the same way and look at the amp draw. Anything above 500 ma will drain the battery and is not normal.

500mA will drain a battery in about 2 days, really you should see no more than around 50mA after all modules have gone to "sleep"

An aftermarket alarm will draw 250 ma. You never know what has been installed.

After draining my red top several times and ruining it I'm ready for a device like the one mentioned in the original post.

Anyone have any similar products that might be better than the one mentioned?

Nevermind- I called the company who makes this thing and the only problem I had with it was the fact that it shuts power off at 11.7 volts.

While Optima told me ideally shut off should be at 12.4, I couldn't find a more well rounded product at that shut off rating.

I ordered one, and will also pull the Onstar fuse.

Installed today with new, warranty replacement optima red top. Not a bad quality product. I did have to cut the positive battery clamp as it kept sliding off the positive post when clamped down.

A side form that, no issues on install.
