We can all agree that we have great tastes in vehicles, what else do you have? I've seen some cool cars (Roush, 5thGen). Any bikers on here? Here is my fair-weather baby; Last weekend I took a ride to Kinzua Resevoir in the Allegheny Nat'l Forest, beatiful place with lots of twisties, the picture doesn't do the fall colors justice.

Beautiful!! I'm such a Porsche fan, only thing I would do is change the wheels IMO ;) BUT it's not my vehicle..Bet it drives great. The mid engine is truly awesome :jump:

Thanks for the compliments. The wheels tend to look better in person, but I didn't get them for looks as much as performance. They weigh a few pounds less than stock at each corner. Plus, I found them right down the street from me...kind of ramdom.

And, yes, the car handles amazingly. I need to hit the track at some point, but I don't really want to beat on the tires, brakes, etc. I have enough expenses right now.

2010_5thgen
10-28-2011, 01:20 PM
That cars meant to handle the track amazingly.....that wouldn't be beating on it lol. Its amazing what a good set of forged wheels will do for a car. My wheels weigh like 5lbs a piece, less than stock.

I knew there would be some cool toys around here...

Charles is that a Rally Fighter in your sig pic? Do you have one of those??? I got to sit in one once, those things are badass.

Here are some more of mine; The blue one I built, and still have, but it needs a new engine. The yellow one I rebuilt and sold a couple years ago.

Beautiful Bonanza and the 210 was always one of my favorites!! I also had a 1966 Piper Comanche 260 that I loved to fly and just recently sold, and learned some important lessons from it. At 65 hours a year I couldn't justify the ownership costs. If it flys, floats, or fu**s, rent it! Also I found out that joint ownership in anything, be it a plane or vacation home, can ruin the best of friendships.

Dude, we went on a cruise to Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico this summer. While we were in Panama, we had to buy a 3 piece luggage set just to bring back her shoes...

When we came back from Hawaii one year, we had to buy a 5 piece to bring it back...

Of course, it was filled with SHOES!!!!

Mark
They do have premature engine failures, mostly related to oil burning. It mostly affected 99 models. Thats why I searched and was patient until an 01 fell into my hands. Too bad Isuzu had major defects with most of their vehicles because at the time I thought they were cutting edge when it came to some design cues and ideas. It also does not hurt that it was designed by Shiro Nakamura.

OMG - I had a '99 Vehicross too! I loved it and it did great in the mud. Those were the ATS tires that did OK on highway and mud, the downside the VX was that the ride was like being in a tank. I never had to take it back to the dealer for anything and nothing ever broke on it.

OMG - I had a '99 Vehicross too! I loved it and it did great in the mud. Those were the ATS tires that did OK on highway and mud, the downside the VX was that the ride was like being in a tank. I never had to take it back to the dealer for anything and nothing ever broke on it.
Awesome, thanks for the pic. Why'd you let it go!

With the back problems I was having at the time and it's short wheel base with the stiff ride and being 6 ft 5 it was a challenge getting in and out of with the back. It's one of the many cars I regret selling. I took the back seat out and it was a great two seater for hauling things around. The H3 had a much better ride and the H2 has a great ride and oodles of headroom for my 6 ft 5 frame!

Yup, I agree. I'm 6-3 and its barely enough headroom for me. But I love the truck so much that I don't care. I'm gonna eventually throw some better tires on it and put some new shocks and struts to see if that improves the ride. Like they say, it rides like a bus. In the VX's case its actually true. I'm just hoping I can make her last 50 more years or until i'm gone. I'm coating the cladding with 303 Aerospace almost monthly. :excited:

The seats are the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in, the ride SUCKS!!! BUT COOL AS HELL....

The only downfall with those cars was the motor and lack of power. But they are pretty light. They make superchargers for them but not sure how well the motor would hold up

We actually wanted a convertible, and an automatic,.. I forgot how much I hate to shift. The ZR1 was going to be my daily driver too, so that didn't help. I actually just sold the Mini Cooper like an hour ago, so the GS will be the DD now.

Also there's only the wife and I, and three cars is just too much. The H2 wasn't getting any use! It's really tough though to get back into the H2 after you have been bolting around in the Mini go cart!! That really is the funnest car we have ever driven...

I agree, the base is very bland looking. Someone buying that would just strictly be a cheap thing...

In the Vette forums, looks like the Z06 people have been pissed since the inception of the GS since it stole the wider body and stuff from the Z06 for like $40 grand less or something...

I love the carbon too. I just ordered the carbon fiber front splitter and the side skirts to steal a bit off the ZR1 look too! Should piss some people off in the ZR1 forum now too... lol

Those z06 guys have nothing to be bitching about. That z06 is a bad car. Just because the gs got some styling cues, doesn't mean jack. The mmotor, suspension is what makes that car a supercar. I've seen videos of the z06 smoking gallardos and ferarris all day.

Thanks Hummer Mann... I am just very neurotic about things. I can handle two cars but when it gets to more, the extra insurance, registrations, inspections, washings etc.. start getting to me. Plus the thought of depreciation on three now instead of two, etc...

Plus the salt on the ground here, and I find I am storing them more than driving. All my friends think I'm nuts for not driving the H2 in the winter. I have 15k miles on it and you know how the bottoms of them get. So I finally said screw it and been driving the new Vette now, salt and all,,, but I do have to admit, it's still killing me...

OrangeCrush

I'm with you guys... IMO, the Z06 is the BEST bang for the buck bar none. Yes, there may be faster or better handling but usually at 3-4 times the cost.

I wouldn't bat an eye at owning one. Having said that, I like GS because I like convertibles. Throw a supercharger on a GS and you've got a better than average performing car with all the looks and convertible to boot. (no pun intended...)

No way would my camaro ever see the roads in the wintertime...especially with salt. Now that we've had some rain, most of the roads are cleared.my dad gets his vette out random days in the winter. As long as there's no snow on the ground. But his cars white. Mines black. He has swirls out the wazoo on his but you cant see because of the white. I migh get it out this week. If you don't already know, check out POR15 (red can, not the spray). Did it to one of my past H2's, it came out fantastic. We used a brush, took a while to do though, and it has a pretty strong odor, but imo it's the best stuff out there. Can't sledgehammer it off.... It's a 3 or 4 step process though...

My body shop does a lot of paintwork for Rick Hendrick. We just finished a ?67 Corvette (20K for just a paint job.. they put it back together)

Anyway, while I was looking at a few of their cars, they showed me a new Camaro that GM gave Hendricks to build for them. It was a base model, 6cyl with the only options being floor mats.

4 months later, it?s a supercharged LS-9 with ZL-1 body parts, Ford 9? (one that I?ve never seen before) and the car ran 9.30 in the quarter in STREET DOT tires.

Not bad for a car you can daily drive...

I?ve been to his personal museum and taken a bunch of pics of the cars he has. (I?d like to post pics but it would be vocational suicide)

We?ve recently finished a ?63 split window, (2) 67 Corvettes (have a third one in the shop now) and (2) ?67 Chevelles.

Obviously he has a unique relationship with GM and it?s amazing what his team can build. They can manufacture anything on site. (from billet to carbon fiber on the spot)

I?ll ask if they mind me taking a pic of that particular camaro.

Thanks Pal, 40k mile one owner and all original...other than the Centerline Convo Pros I put on it. Had plans to do a pro touring set up, but just can't bring myself to change anything on this one...it has full documentation, all service and warranty records, window sticker, even a Buick sales brochure from 1987.

Driving the new Porsche compared to the older style is much like driving a C6 compared to a C5 to a C4 Corvette.

Obviously more powerful, better handling and definitely smoother. I can't explain how smooth this car is in the turns.

It's only 315HP which is not overly exciting but with a 4.8 0-60 and a top speed of 174mph, it'll get for an aspirated 6 cyl.

I've always wanted a Porsche because to me, it's a driver's car built by drivers. It's ergonomically correct, it's smooth, everything fits, the clutch is fantastic.... and since I wanted a convertible, that left me with either spending 140-160K for a 911 convertible or 80K for a Boxster. I've always liked everything about a Boxster but the body style. It was entirely too feminine for me. (no offense to those that have one)

Anyway, love the car, can't wait to hit the track with it.

We did it for aobut 12 years and retired and moved to NH about 4 years ago, before it got very crazy there like is it now. The red carpets don't pay squat... there literally was no competition back then and it paid crazy crazy money because of exclusive shots, meaning I would be the only one with the shot and the mags would bid on them like crazy...

I had a 1985 and 1989 Porsche 911 and loved everything about them except the air conditioning on the older 911s left a lot to be desired. You get an incredible feel for the road in a Porsche that is unique. The '89 was a turbo and spent a few days in the shop under warranty getting the turbo issue ironed out that they had with the 88 and 89 models. As far as a driver's car, they're right with the BMW M5 in my opinion, but the new M5s have gotten too big and don't compare to the older E39s. My favorite toy is my 2004 Vortech supercharged Z06 with the Bassani short tube headers and Borla exhaust. With 588 RWHP it is more car than I will ever need. It is much more comfortable than my old Viper and I can actually do a road trip in the Corvette and be comfortable in it. With the lack of sound proofing and insulation in the Z06 I do get some blower whine from it. It's also getting harder to find the thin glass they used on the C5 Z06 for windshield and sides. I have a spare windshield I keep at the shop just in case. I just got home last night from Corvettes at Carlisle and the C5 drove like a dream. With all that said, I will always have a soft spot for German engineering and the Porsches.

I love Porsches and Corvettes too! There's something I've also always loved about German engineering. My Hummer has become my daily driver but I also have kept my 2002 BMW M5 and agree that the new ones have gotten too big. It's the longest I've ever kept a car. These are my garage queens. They are solid investments - like a 401k! You can't take it with you and I find myself going out in the garage and just sitting in them. I love your Porsche, Mark. Every German car should come with a keg of beer, just like some Italian car dealers give you a case of wine with the sale!

Jim,

I want to see those pics close up. Got any more pics? Those are some hot cars. This is my first P car and I've always wanted one but I can't afford $160K on a 911 which means my only choice for a convertible was a boxster.

The boxster is a great car, reliable, handles well, fun to drive, blah, blah, blah but at the end of the day, it looks like an overgrown Miata.

When the new 981 came out, I was sold. So far I love it... can't wait to hit the track with it.

Post some pics or send them to my email. orangecrush03@gmail.com

Thanks for the response. It may not be your cup of tea but I feel it is very well put together. A combination of leather and suede is commonly used on interiors. The quilted piece is a hand sewn leather diamond stitch drape for the sides of the console and the skulls are the Jake Skulls for Corvette Racing. Carbon Fiber is also used quite often but I didn't want to go with the traditional piano black look, that's why it's silver carbon fiber to change it up a bit. And yes, the M is a blast to drive, like a go cart. Thanks Again!!!

No...just a regular turbo; but I put the GMPD LNF Turbo upgrade package, catback and CAI on it. It was supposed to push 290hp with just the LNF, so I figure I prolly got another 10 out of the exhaust and CAI.

It's not every day that you get 300hps out of a 2.0 liter...

yup I kinda miss it too, that Sky is still on top of my list of funnest cars to drive, turbo charged gocart:) I think it only had one Mark, but it was pretty darn quick...
Agreed...too bad the Kappa line died with Pontiac and Saturn. Fun little cars! But ZERO trunk space. LOL!

I do sometimes miss my 350hp 2.0l WRX wagon. It was so much fun to blow past Corvettes on the track with a station wagon. :D Plus I could carry a full set of track wheels/tires in the back!

I always said that if I had to buy a foreign car it would be a Subaru WRX. They sound so sweet for a 4 banger...and the AWD; well, that just seals the deal in my book.

I still wish we had the Eagles though...they were in that domestic niche market that Subaru eventually gobbled up...

Thought you may enjoy this one. If I get tired of towing one I'll just switch places and tow the other. Not really, but probably could.

That Porsche is drop dead gorgeous Mark! I've always had a soft spot for Porsche engineering and handling. As for that RV, that's more of a mobil mansion. One word - WOW!

Would love to get the H2 off your hands but it is not in the cards at this time or the near future :( (New job but playing catch up from a few years of less income, at least the wife and I survived with everything we had)

Doing pretty good Mark and am glad to hear you are hanging onto the H2. It has to be the best conversion out there and ya gotta be proud of it cause it is a one of a kind and was done right.

Take care Bud, Ed

Mark the truck and trailer are awesome... Great rig! Glad to see your keeping the deuce for now. I saw it on eBay for a while... Great looking ride. i had been curious what happened with your auction after the last guy couldn't get the money when it came time. Not selling is probably a blessing in disguise, you would have missed it, and it would be so expensive to replace when you realized you wanted another.

I had it on ebay 4 times. It was won for $54 but the guy couldn't get a loan (duh)

The second time, a guy did the paperwork after the auction for $60K but lived in the Cayman Islands. He had his loan work approved but the bank wouldn't release the check since the vehicle was not in his country even though we were going through an escrow company.

The last two times it never hit reserve.

I'd like to sell it still since I don't want to make payments on the dually but it's no big deal, if it sells, it does, if it doesn't, no harm.

I do have it going to Lowe's Motor Speedway. Though it didn't hit reserve, it pulled 49 and 50K the two times it ran before.

We'll see.....
