H2 SUV:

Need some help here..Only one Brake light is not working in the rear bumper lights. All other 3 brake lights work fine. Also all runnign taillights in all four lamps assemblies work as well.

I switched the light sockets, bulbs, etc.

Any ideas?

Bad trailer harness? (looks ok), any specific fuses for one side stop lamps?

thanks!!

Your talking about the lower bumper lights, not the uppers in the body? If so I believe the trailer plug is the source that feeds both bumper lights. I just bought that harness to add the lower lights to my bumper.

How about you stick a volt meter in the socket? You only have 3' of wire you issue could be in.

yes correct the lower bumper lights. Should I disconnect the trailer plug harness and check for continuity, etc?

I dont have the harness in front of me, but i dont think there are any disconnect points in it. The feed plugs into the trailer plug and the rear lights are hardwired into that. You can lookup the pinout at the trailer plug and check for continuity between that and your light plug.

Just had this problem with my truck, the running lamp in my left lower bumper light was working but not the brake/signal..... thought the second element in the bulb was bad, pulled it and it looked fine, replaced it anyway and still didnt work, tried another bulb and nothing. Took it into the dealer (Im under warranty still) and they informed me that the harness had a short in it and replaced it.... working fine now.

wether its a short or open circuit, it can still be easily detected w/ a volt/ohm meter. Probably take you longer to google the trailer harness pin out wiring than actually diagnosing it. Anyone should be able to do this if they wanted to save a few bucks.

Agree with MUD, should be fairly easy to track down.... obviously if my truck wasnt still under warranty (I also had another issue that had to be addressed) I would have tracked my issue down myself. Im sure the dealer would bend you over good if it wasnt a covered issue.

oK guys I just replced the trailer/rear lights harness with a new one from Ebay and I have the same problem. One stop light still not working. I did switch the sockets/buls with the same result. So what's next?

Can I jumper the wire from the other working side? Is there any fuses or relays that control this item? The problem must lie further upstream in the main harness?

Need some diagnosis help here?

Latestest update: Now when my right directional is on the lower left one flases also??? Still no brake light either. Could this be tied to a flasher relay? Any ideas? or part numbers to repalce for the flasher?:notallthere:

disconnect it at that trailer harness and leave it unplugged- so the trailer plug and both lower bumper lights are dead. Do the upper rear lights work correctly now?

The rear upper lights have always worked perfectly. The problem is just with the bumper lights.

I ordered a flasher relay. Can this be installed without removing the three dash panels? Any way to reach it from under the dash? Any tips on installation?

STOP LAMPS
The STOP LP 25 A fuse in the underhood fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the normally open stop lamp switch. When the driver presses
the brake pedal, the switch contacts close and battery positive voltage is supplied to both the STOP 15 A fuse and the CHMSL 10 A fuse in the IP fuse
block, and to the turn signal switch. The turn signal/hazard module then supplies voltage to both of the trailer rear turn/stop lamp supply voltage
circuits. The voltage from the CHMSL 10 A fuse is to the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) and the trailer jumper harness. The voltage from
the STOP 15 A fuse is to the stop lamps, throttle actuator control (TAC) module, and the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The CHMSL is
grounded at G410. The stop lamps are grounded at G401.

PARK, TAIL AND MARKER LAMPS
The park, tail, and marker lamps, including the license lamps, are turned on when the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK or ON position, or
anytime the headlamps are requested. The underhood fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to both the park lamp relay switch contacts and the
park lamp coil circuit. The body control module (BCM) provides a ground or control circuit to the park lamp relay coil circuit. When the park lamps are
turned on the BCM energizes the park lamp relay. Current flow is from the park lamp relay to the FR PRK 10 A fuse, RR PRK 10 A fuse, LR PRK 10
A fuse, and the TRL PRK 10 A fuse, and to their respective park and marker lamps. The front park and marker lamps are grounded at G100. The rear
park and marker lamps are grounded at G401. The license lamps are grounded at G410. If the headlamp switch is left in the ON position, the
inadvertent power control feature will turn off the park, tail, and marker lamps, approximately 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned to the OFF
position. If the driver places the headlamp switch in the ON position after the ignition switch has been turned OFF, or if the ignition switch is in the
ACCY position, the park, tail and marker lamps will remain on until turned off or the battery runs dead.

MUD & Others,

Thanks for all of your help. Turns out it was the flasher relay. Replaced it under the dash and everything is operating normal now.

Thanks again guys!!:jump:
