Still have mine, bought in sept 2005, now with 87k on it. Love my H3 , hope to have it a long time, what do I need to pay attention to around 90-100k miles?
Good to hear they hold up with high mileage.

Got to visit with my 2006 H3 this weekend bought new in May of 2005 and now in the capable hands of my son in Telluride, CO with 130,000 miles on it and going strong. I said this two years ago, and I'll say it again, Hummers are everywhere in Telluride and you can't drive down main street without seeing at least one H1, and a handful of H2s and H3s.

Yup, I still roll around every week or so. I hate how nobody posts anymore, but I guess that's the way of the dinosaurs. I plan on driving my Alpha into the grave. I really don't plan on selling even if I can get my hands on a H1 2door. I plan on keeping old Bess until she just gives up.
1st Hum: 2006 H3 I5 manual, Adventure, rock rails, ucp, OR lights:::RIP from the idiot that T-boned me around a blind corner going twice the speed limit.
2nd Hum: 2008 H3 Alpha, auto, Adventure, rock rails, UCP, markers, Boulder acces HD bumperw/ 9000lb winch, Sroof, back up cam, K&N,
I love my hum. I like going easily where many others struggle, and I love having all the steel around me in a world full of friggen idiots that would fail their go cart license test.

I still have an 08, about 46K miles, but it will most likely be history by Dec of this year (or sooner).

F5fstop, great to hear from one of the old guard and that you're still in your '08. I remember the pictures of your white one when it was new. My son has my H3 out in Denver and it's going strong and I don't plan on ever selling my H2. Yes, the H3 side of the forum has gotten much quieter. With over 4700 posts you were a serious help to a lot of us when we got our H3s new. Best of everything to you!

Jim,
It has been a long time since I visited this site. Been on a few others; however, this is only third of fourth post on a Hummer forum in quite a few months (posted a few on X...last week).
Still in the Hummer family, but have the itch to get a new vehicle and since there are no such things as "new" Hummers anymore; guess I'll head back to Jeep.
Take care....

Still loving the 2006 H3 over 50K and no real issues other than the dead battery. The battery problem for me stopped when I no longer left the keys in the ignition and put in a rv size battery.
Its a great machine the H3 and planning to ride it till the wheels fall off!!

Vaporized a deer at 60 mph and got some fur on my front right tow hook but other than that no major problems. Hope you guys are all doing well.

Just popped in to check the forum out and found this thread.
Good to see some of the originals on here. I'm not sure if I qualify as old guard, I joined in August 2005 when I bought my first H3.
Now on number 5. Never had any problems, I just tend to trade too often.
Latest is a 2010 base model, 19k when I bought it and 36k now. Unless a pristine jewell comes along with low miles (and a V8), I'll hang on to this one....I think I've said that before.

still check the website every now and then! been a member here since before i got my first hummer. Got the first H3 in December of 2006 it was a brand new 2007 base slate gray model, i traded it in, in July 2010 it had 67,000 miles on it at the time. for a brand new 2010 H3 Alpha in Canyon Metallic it currently has 35,000 miles on it and i have no intention on getting rid of it anytime soon! i love hummers too much and theres nothing out there that intrigues me as much as a hummer, id go for an h1 if i had the chance though!

Still have mine which was purchased fall of 2005 and it has 105k miles. I still really, really like it and would wish some GM marketing folks would still consider a GMC H-series for H3/H4. There is nothing between a big Tahoe and the new-minivan(traverse) these days.

I'm an original owner. I own a black 2006 with the luxury package and fully loaded. I bought it in September 2005 and it has 107,000 miles. It's been trouble free for the most part. I hate the faded black plastic which is my only complaint. I use back to black and other similar products however and it seems to work well.
Overall no major complaints. I honestly want a Jeep Grand Cherokee but will try to hold out for the 2014 model. Until then it's me and the ole' H3. She's given me a lot of memories!

Recently got rid of mine at the end of Sept. Had it since Oct. 05 right after we got back from our honeymoon. It had 82k miles, but just seemed to be one issue after another in the past year or so.
Figured with the prices where they were, having just about every seal/gasket go in the past year or 2, and the fact that I needed to replace the tires...it was a good time to sell. Though I would say that I had the factory offroad tires, and 82k miles on them (would def. have bought the same tires if I was keeping it).
Was really sad to clean it out for the last time, but knew it was for the best.
Never forget the times I went through and over feet of snow.
Wish you all luck!

Haven't been here in awhile but saw this thread on top, still running my June '05 Boulder Gray 05/2005 build at about 189,000 KM so far. Overall has been a rock solid vehicle with a few things: recently replaced the thermostat, before that, on second set of tires, been through a couple of sets of brakes (always thought they were a bit undersized for the job since day one) and the only major issue was the infamous cracked cylinder head that through an engine code about 10 minutes after the warranty expired - service dept cut a deal on that though...
Oh, and on fourth windshield

Although I bout my 2006 when it was about 2 years old, I still feel like the original owner because it was part of their GM executive vehicle fleet... SOOOO... since it did not leave "gm" until I bought it, I am kind of the first owner! LOL.....

If GM kept a vehicle for two years in the fleet, it was not part of the executive fleet that was driven by executives; it was part of service engineering and was held for test purposes. Heck, I might have managed the techs who tore it apart.:jump:

HummerJim, if you find one pass on the info! I have 2010 Alpha with 63,000 miles on it, got it new in July 2010 but I drive it every day so I drive a lot. I saw an H3 for sale the other week, a 2010 with only 210 miles on it, but it wasn't an Alpha. After having a non Alpha for almost 4 years and then an Alpha now for almost 4 years I couldn't go back. There is just no comparison.

My wife traded her green '06 H3, bought new, for a white '08 in January of '08 also bought new. Except for the cylinder head issue covered under warranty on the '06 and a window lift conking out, no big issues. She liked the Shadow Green Metallic so much, I had her '08 painted that color for her while she was visiting her sister. Maaco did a nice job for$1100 and I've been happy with the quality of work and how it's held up. I'm loving my H2 and my son has an H3 he bought used in '09, so we're a three Hummer family.

I bought an 08 H3 Base back in 09 with 18.5k miles on it and ended up selling it due to school expenses when it had 65k miles with no issues. I've had some serious withdrawals and looking at getting a new one. The ones that are in my budget typically have around 80-110k miles. Are there any things I should look out for when buying one with that many miles? I see a lot of 3.5L with upwards of 150k miles. I loved the 3.7L but is there that much of a difference between the 3.5L and the 3.7L? I'm open to either engine but want to know what kind of expenses I could be looking at getting into with those higher miles, anything I should look for?
f5fstop
03-03-2015, 04:11 PM
Just remember the 3.5 was first year H3 so there could be a lot of other bugs besides the engine. You would hope in 150K miles all those bugs would have been fixed...but who knows.
There was a noticeable difference between the two engines. I had a 3.5 and then got rid of that and purchased a 2008 with the 3.7; big difference on the highways and especially in the mountains of CO and UT.
I had a 2008 H3 with 55K miles up for sale, for quite a long time, for 15500 and no takers. Ended up trading it in for a big more than I was asking.
Wazzu1336
03-09-2015, 01:34 AM
Thank you, are there any major specific bugs that you know of to look at prior to purchasing possibly for the 3.5L's or any thing else with the '06 H3's?
I did really like the 3.7L in the one I had. If I could find a good one in my price range I will definitely consider that over a 3.5L. What kind of differences have you noticed?
I'm hoping to find an '07 or 08' with around 75k miles if I can for around the 12-14k range, if I can.

Got a crack in the left windshield - replaced it, AC blower motor broke - replaced it. front valves for the CTIS system constantly leaked - replaced them. lastly had a small coolant leak which was fixed and the starter would not always worked - had that starter replaced. has been good other than that, hopefully not to many more other things come up!

Old thread… but.. I still have my original 2007 H3, purchased new back then. I have only some 35k miles on, driving rarely. We moved together to Europe from CA 12 years ago. Had to do brakes, rotors and pads last December, plus new original GM battery (shipped from the US, none other available locally fits) otherwise all OK. Never any problem except some steering damage due my rougher off-roading. All repaired though, and taking it slower now on bumpy dirt roads and meadows since...
Will keep this wonderful vehicle forever!
