I have a recurring leak coming from the transfer case. The seal to the prop shaft at the rear is wearing away stupidly fast and causing transmission fluid to leak everywhere.
When I put my foot on the gas pedal, before the car moves i get a clunk. The same clunk happens when i sharply take my foot off the gas too.
Could this be linked with the seal leaking?
Any help would be great,
thanks

done some digging on the web and found a suggestion that replacing the prop shaft with a longer version (part no 15207223) will cure the clunk problem. obviously the clunk isn't the problem, the worn seals are the problem. would this be helpful?

The clunk is normal for GM trucks. A longer prop is not good idea as it has to move in/out due to suspension travel in rear. The prop is causing early seal failure because small rocks and dirt get trapped in there and wear grooves in prop shaft. Simply replace prop with new OEM shaft and seal and problem will be resolved.

ok cheers mate. I'll get myself a replacement prop (can only get 2nd hand over here so hopfully it will be ok). Would the bearing inside the transfer case need rpelacing?

Might check with any local GM deal to determine part availability. The bearing should be fine and no need to replace it unless you remove it.
