The last time around I spent about a grand on a Corsa Catback (Sport with dual tips) and didn't care for the sound. I like mellow deep sounds (sort of like the old 5.0 mustangs) but the Corsa sounded a little too much like a semi.
This time around I was thinking of just replacing the muffler with a Flowmaster 70 to get a deep mellow sound. Anyone running this and want to make comment? Did your torque band stay the same?

Anybody running Borla? Comments? How's the sound?

My previous experience with flowmaster (not flowmaster 70 nor in a h2) is they are inexpensive and loud! Although i did not dyno it but it almost felt like it didn't have much backpressure so i was losing a lotta low end power.
I do have the Borla dual tip exhaust on my '03 H2. I do like the sound of it. It's a little louder and deeper at idle and driving around town. And when you mash it, it's still not obnoxiously loud, it is just right to me. The down side is they are not really "bolt on", it's more like "clamp on". So it took forever to align the two tips on each side. And now that they are align, the two pipes underneath are touching each other so there's a rattle sometimes http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I am sure i just need a few more hours of crawling underneath the rig and do some more twisting and stuff...
Combined with the Edelbrock headers and a Trueflow air filter, the gain is definitely there and the powerband is just better all around. Especially compared to stock, it just felt constrained.
Oh, make sure you stay away from Borla headers, do a search cuz i just made a commment on it few days ago...

Hmmm???
I thought Lingenfelter used Borla headers in their H2 Hummer Lingenfelter 500 HP SC Super Duty Package (http://www.lingenfelter.com/performanceh2_hummer.asp)...
IAre they still crap or was that what you ment? Could you tell more. I'm considering a visit to Lingenfelter http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Kacy,
I went with the Flowmaster 70 for the exact reasons you have outlined. I had the Corsa system on my last Hummer, and I couldn't justify spending that kind of money just for the sound (after all, the Hummer is never going to match my Viper in performance, so why try). For $200.00 installed, I'm very pleased. No drone, a fairly quiet idle, and the sound is very similar to the Corsa, just a little deeper. I can't comment on the torque band as I haven't really noticed any noticeable difference. If you want, I can try and record a .wav for you so you can hear it.
Best Regards,

Yeap, unfortunately, that's what I meant:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
It's one thing when a company makes a product with problems, as long as they fix it, I think it's all good. But what really ticks me off with Borla is they don't even bother to call you back after leaving them 6 messages in 2 weeks.
Attached is a pic of the product, the problem i had with their headers is the tube area circled in red. This tube is in the way so when the plug wire comes out, they contact. I am sure this problem can be fixed with a bracket or a different angled plug wire boot. But I was simply upset at Borla because they weren't taking care of their customer. Just for that reason I would never buy anything from Borla again, that's all.
And I do regret ordering the exhuast system from them at the same time for the same reason but it was already installed. Beside, the rattling problem maybe more of an installation issue. Whereas the header melting the plug wire and running on 7 cylinders is a much bigger issue.
I run the Flowmaster 40. I like it. It's great when you punch it, but it's not too loud on the freeway. I left the chrome tip on mine, and haven't mashed it out in the mud and rocks yet. But the tip makes the sound come down outside the car, and you can hear it better when you're standing behind it. I know a guy that has the same system with a stock tip so it stays up under the body, and I don't think it's as noticeable when it's ideling. I like it better than the Corsa. But that's just my opinion.
My husband installed it in the shop, and then we had the muffler shop weld it. It took him about an hour to cut the old one off and clamp the new one on. Good luck. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Borla headers are no problem for me! Worked great and installed them myself...
Quality plug wires such as magnecor and a twist of the boot to angle the wire and no problem with wires melting...

After the first factory wire got fried, I also replaced all eight with the red Magnecor (#85241), which are supposed to be more heat resistance. I also twisted the coil end so it wasn't leaning on the header but it was still very close and it only took 20-30 miles of driving before the magnecor got fried too. Then I had to buy another set of magnecor because I don't want non-matching plug wires on a fairly new truck, just didn't seem right to me http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Plus I bought some header wrap, steel zip ties, and these foil sleeves made especially for plug cable boots and it lasted 50-60 miles. In my point of view, I had to spend another $200+ trying to fix the problem because Borla sold me a poorly designed product http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
So glad to hear not everyone had to go thru what I had. Maybe the header I got was just a bad one (mis-welded?). But that still doesn't gives Borla any excuse of not returning calls to their customer. What a shame!

That bites about your experience with Borla...but it is actually the first time i have ever even heard of a Borla problem. I have run their stuff on several different cars and never had a prob. All of it was first class made/material/fit. The clamp on fittings, for me, are a temporary fix untill I get the vehicle to my exhaust shop to weld the joints. I would go up the ladder at Borla and complain until something was done....
BTW, wanna sell the old,no-fitting headers cheap? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I run 40 series Flowmasters on dual set up and have tail pipes over the axle all on the passenger side from cats out the back. It is located in the factory spot and mufflers are welded in on thier edge standing up and down with inlet and outlet front and rear of course.
The tail pipes just get over the axle and stop pointing down in just about the same spot where factory turned down and tucked up high above axle. Has a deep low sound at idle and normal acceleration. When You jump on it everyone knows as that is when they get loud. Running down the freeway a very low decibel sound almost not heard. No vibration in the cab. I could not have picked a better set up unless I had 5 or 6 H2's setting there to choose the sound i liked. The Performance exhaust shop had down a few H2's and when I tried to explain what i wanted He just said trust Him so i did and perfect. Oh I guess i should mention I have stainless long neck Dynatech headers and noticed a BIG difference right away. Then added programer and all the other usual stuff that is easy to add on. I'm actually pleased enough if I did not ever add a turbo or SC I would be happy the way it is. Performance shop estimates by factory numbers on each product that has been added I'm probably 425 to 450 HP at the flywheel. He felt that was being conservative. I think He is probably close as I have run alot of different amounts of HP and the things added to My girl really woke it up. I'm trying to work in a trip to Dallas as it is the only AWD dyno near Me but I talked to him last week and I will still have to remove front drive shaft as the H2 is to long to use the front drum on the dyno. H2 wheelbase is just to long for his AWD. I have found other single dyno's but they are not wide enough for H2. I hope I can get there soon so I can let everyone get an idea of what just the basic add on stuff is doing for us before we put on turbo's and SC.

Sorry, I sent the headers back already. The store was nice enough to give me full credit even though they were on the truck for 2 weeks and they will deal with Borla. Since then, they have discontinued Borla headers on their website and only carries Edelbrock headers now http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

So which would be louder? The Flowmaster 40 or 50?

flowmaster 40's are louder...
iam running a true dual set up with dual 40 series mufflers and 3.5 in custom pipes out the back and it is LOUD... you will never sneak around with it. but iam sponsored from HEADMAN Headers. HEADMAN.com... and I love them they also have great throttle body spacers and other stuff.. Id say i might have lost a little low end performance because of the 3.5 in pipes.. BUT i can still work any stock h2.. iam eatin escalades...

I just left my local muffler shop. They are wanting to put two 40 Series Flowmasters standing up and down next to each other. They also suggested a dual chamber also. Will it be louder if I go with two 40 series or on dual chamber 40 series I am guessing they meant?

They are offering to do Your muffler setup exactly the way My Perf. Exhaust shop did mine with 40 series flowmasters. Best sound I have ever had on any of the other vehicles I have had including My 99 silverado that I drive everyday. Consider I'm running headers also so if you are not Yours will run a little quieter than mine. I can not hear mine on freeway cruising or very little. idle sounds great and deep. Normal driving gives You a good deep sound. When You get on it hard then You will hear it loud and deep.
Make sure they go on over the axle and not turn down in front of axle. In front of axle will put to much reverb in the cab. Go over axle and have them tuck tail pipes in just about the same place factory is with tips pointing down at a 45 degree and You will not have any trouble when off roading. They should put new 40's right where the factory stock muffler sits. The factory muffler is so big the 40's fit right in it's place with no problem at all.
Hope this helps.

Cool Thanks TAZ:
Hey my buddy does exhaust also and he said he can do it but was wondering what size the exhaust pipe is going into and coming out the the muffler, is it like 3 inch or what? He also was wondering how long that stock muffler is, looks like at least 2 feet long.

You are about right on stock muffler size.
We did 3" if I remember right to the mufflers and then down to 2.5" going out so We had room for 2 tailpipes over axle in stock tailpipe location. The reduction in size was also to mantain better back pressure as We were alittle concerned about flowing to much exhaust and hurting performance since I had headers and the dual chamber muffler. Just felt like beng a little cautious with back pressure. Maybe worried for no reason on that issue but the sound is sweet.

I have cherry bombs now into dual exit. What do you think would be louder along with good performance.?
