Magnacharger Oil question/instruction

Hello, I am looking for instruction and input on how to change the oil in the Magnacharger. What kind of oil (brand, type, viscosity etc.) is recommended. Also, what interval should the oil be changed? Thanks!

Technically you shouldn't really have to change the oil in the supercharger snout...but if you're anal every 50K is probably a good interval. I've got an Eaton on my Lightning (same Eaton M112 case as the H2 supercharger) and you can either yank the snout (eight bolts if I remember correctly) and let the old oil drain onto rags that you've stuffed under the snout or use a turkey baster with a hose and run it down into the oil fill hole (a much cleaner method and you don't have to worry about the anaerobic sealer on the snout when you put it back together). The oil is the same synthetic stuff that you can get at a Pontiac dealer...same crap they use in the supercharged Grand Am's and it's about $7-8 a bottle (you'll need two and I can hunt down a part number if you need it). Ford also sells the supercharger oil but it's about $14 a bottle for the same stuff.

Somewhere along the way I got it in my head that this oil needed changed 'every other engine oil change'.. From your info, it appears I was mis-informed. I just might be real anal (I tend to be abit that way!!) and change this oil out in the next couple of months.. Since you obviously know much more about this than I do, Ill email/PM you then and have you help me with the first oil change. Thanks again

I believe that magnusun uses a special oil and that typically the unit must be sent in (after much use) to have it refreshed.

Nope...same oil that the OEM's run in the Eatons. The only need to send the unit in would be in the event you had a bearing go bad...and the bearings use a special grease but you can get that too.

Have you ever opened one up? I would be afraid that it might not go back together precisely the way it was originally. According to Magnusun, you only need to change the fluid after 100-150k or if raced often.

Nope...same oil that the OEM's run in the Eatons. There is no need to change the blower oil---and...I would not take it apart unless you know what you are doing and also want to void the warranty.

Thanks for all the feedback/input everyone. The mechanic at the dealer mentioned that the SC oil should be changed every-other engine oil change.. That sounded different that what I had understood (and prompted this post), so it is good to hear that Magnacharger recommends the oil stay in there for the duration of the 100-150k miles... that is a relief.

There are a few blowers (Vortech) that draw oil from the main oil pan, but not the Magnusun.
