Well, it's been almost 3 months since we purchased our H3. It's been a blast to drive, gets pretty good economy, and hasn't given us many problems.

The only mechanical issue we have (which has stopped now for some reason) is a bug in the ABS/TC system. The Stability warning appears occassionally and tells us that the system is not working. There was a time when it wouldn't shift into 4LOW either. But currently, things seem ok. Odd.

As for cosmetics, the trim piece behind the hood, around the wiper pits is loose, and pops up. One headlight was getting water in it, which was fixed under warranty. Also, the plastic roof trim over the driver door was busted, and fixed under warranty.

Finally, I have a question. Why does the engine stink? Like, when I open the sunroof, the car is filled with a pungent smell, like something burning. The car has 7,000 miles on it, and still displays this behavior. Any ideas?

The H3 is great in the snow. However, it is uncomfortable (compared to the H2) for long trips. It's a lot easier to drive something though...

As far as your stab/trac/4wd service lights go, bring your H to your dealer. I had the same issue with mine and the cause of the problem is nothing more than a software upgrade.

The only smell they should put out when new is the burn off from the catalytic converter coating that lasts for about 100-150 miles, depending on how hot you get the Cat on each trip.
If you take it on a long freeway trip the first day, you may never notice the smell; it will burn off while driving.

Fstop is right. I bought my H3 in early June, pulled out of Lynch in St. Louis and went straight out highway 70 to Dillon, Colorado and never noticed any smell. After over 7 months of ownership, I've never been back to the dealership for any problem except a headlight that got rocked. I did have the stability warning three or four times after I water blasted mud off the undercarriage, but it went away as soon as everything dried out in 5 orten minutes. I'm still not sure what cannon plug I was blasting to do that - but it's been no problem. Funny thing is I've been through lots of about 10 inch water and never had the light - go figure? As for the 5 cylinder, it's never missed a beat and run flawlessly.

No smells At 6,000 miles till I blasted through a big puddle in the road. I think it was sewer water. It took 2 washes and a week or two to disipate.Smells good now.
