Slip Yoke Bump / Thump Solution

I received a call from a GM Drivetrain Specialist today that was initiated by me contacting the Borg Warner Engineer. GM has announced a solution to the slip yoke problem as of 1/5/05. They call it stop sign clunk. The solution can be found under Service Bulletin 01-04-17-004B. They replace the slip yoke with a nickel plated one. This is the same thing they did for my 01 Silverado years ago when it had this problem. There has not been a nickel plated yoke avaliable for the H2 until now. Can you beleive this? Apparently they are going to equip new units from the factory with these updated yokes.

My dealer said that it was normal and all gm trucks did it....

Do you think they'll replace it if you're out of warranty? I have an extended warranty, but I haven't called yet. I did complain about what I thought was a transmission problem at the time, but now that I've been reading these posts, I'm sure it was the yoke. Our dealer up here insists on employing techs that are barely out of school, with very little experience. Then when you finally get to know them, they are replaced with another young, inexperienced tech. and so on, and so on. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

No that is not the same problem.

Dealer finally replaced my yoke with the nickel plated one...we'll see if it does the trick.

Is the new yoke working for you? Did it take care of the clunk when taking off from a stop? My dealer keeps saying it just is not lubed correct, said it cam ewith the new one from factory... I bought in Jan. 05, manufactured 10/30/04. I think I will call BS to the dealer.

Mine was relubed several times but each lube only took care of the problen short term, then it came back.

So far yes, not one clunk all weekend while off-roading and traveling 250 miles each way to do so.

That's the short term info, we'll see in the long term.

I will see again tomm. when I take it in for service and other items which way the shop will go on this issue, last time it was more lube and lasted about 3 days.

Make sure you give us long term report maybe at 1000miles, 2000miles, 3000miles if you have time.

I had the new slip yoke installed on 4/26/05 it was on an 05 wit approx. 6000 miles and so far no thuump noise when taking off from a stop. So far it seems to work.

I have had this done also and it does not thump. However, I just had it done two weeks ago. The real proof will be after a few thousand miles.

So far it has remedied the issue I have had for years (from the very beginning)...1000 miles since installed and still OK.

Well, several thousand miles later...the new nickel plated slip yoke seems to have remedied the klunking problem. Yippie!
