[VTSTOMPER]

So I was making my way to a birthday party and moving down the highway pretty good when I see in my passenger mirror a small black thing whipping around in the wind. I stop at the next exit to find that the rubber "seal" (if you can call it one, it is more of a spacer or anti rubbing device.) was peeling off the rear of the truck. The rubber piece is attached below the plastic that the rear running lamp is bolted to. I tossed some rubber safe adhesive on it, and I am good to go, but I almost lost it on the road.
I just wanted to send out something about it so you might want to check yours.

Good heads-up, VT. Had the same thing happen on mine. Black silicone adhesive fixed it right up.

I lost one already and had the dealer replace it. Is it only the passenger side that seems to have this issue?

I put some Black RTV on both of them. Just to cover my bases. Mine was the passenger side as you read form the first post...but I have had to learn many times before I started the "both side" way of thought.

Nope, not the only one. My driver's side just started doing this last week. For now, I just keep pressing it back together as I will be visiting the dealer soon.

Damn thing was on there before I left for the auto parts store. them,What did they replace?I'm told it is serviced by the rail PN#15145595 and 96.
There is no listing for just the seal.
So pull out your warrenty paper work and see
what number they charged out on the bill.

I went to the dealership and get this...they are having to order the WHOLE top right rail just to get that one little rubber strip!!! At first, they thought it came with the light cap, which they had in stock, but uh-uh. I don't know if they are right or wrong, but that's what they told me.

Covered under warranty, but that is pretty screwed up...LOL.

If it takes more than a couple of days to get here, the service manager is going to do just that.

What's funny is I just noticed that in the pic of my truck that I posted here http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/2606011751/m/2191098821 You can see the fooking strip hanging off. LOL! I hadn't noticed it when I was taking the pic.

My serveice guy just called and said the top rail (with strip) had arrived, so I'll see if they don't list a separate part no. for it.

Just for clarification, it is not the cap, it's the roof rail that runs from front to rear. And I don't plan on taking it home with me...just the gasket I'm missing.

Okay, so the dealer calls me and says my part is in. The "part" is supposed to be the whole right side top rail and the marker light cap (whic the strip is glued to. Well, they had gotten this package from another dealership, and I'll be damned if that delaership hadn't opened the box and robbed the light cap out of it, leaving just the rail. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

So, the tech and I get in my truck and run over to the lot to see if there's an SUT we can steal one off of. I think that someone just stole both strips off that one SUT.

They have placed another order for the whole top rail/marker light cap, straight from Hummer, to ensure that I get an unmolested package.

Well, it took over a month, but the dealership finally got an unmolested rail kit in. The service tech took the marker light cap out of the box, and replaced mine with it. I told him just to give me the rubber strip, that I was going to rip it off and silicone it as soon as I got home anyway, but he had his orders. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

FYI, for future references...the part #'s are;

Right = 4+04cvz
Left = 5+04cvz23

At least that is what is written up on my warranty ticket. I'd assume that these are for the entire corner cap. I purchased the '05 SUT in December & both were missing from the truck. The other trucks I was looking at had them on?

The service write up was to replace the roof rack guide seal.
