Make sure your dealer has performed the prescribed additional fill of your transfer case fluid. Mine didn't, so it is going back in for the additional fill.

Just the last five digits are all that is required, that is actually the VIN sequence number.
This is a VIN breakdown for GM light trucks, different than used for Cars or Medium Duty Trucks.
5 Country of Build (1,4,5 denote USA)
G World Make Modifier G = Hummer
T H3
D GVWR/Brake System D = 5001-6000 GVWR Range (lbs) Hydraulic brakes
N Line Chassis N = Hummer
1 Series 1 - 4x4
3 Body Type 3 = Four-door cab/utility
6 Engine Type 6 = L52, 3.5L L5, MFI
9 Check digit (randomly generated)
6 Model Year 6 = 2006
8 Manufacturing Plant 8 = Shreveport, LA
105387 VIN Sequence number. First digit (1) is not used on this vehicle for VIN range and may change from year-to-year. For example, one year it might be 1, the following year 5. If the plant will produce greater than 99,999 vehicles it will be used and wil be zero until the 100,000 vehicle is produced. In this case, this vehicle was the 5,387 H3 to be issued a VIN.

Am I supposed to have my transfer case fluid checked now? There's no official HUMMER dealer here in Germany... so if I want my garage to check the transfer case fluid, will they know how to do it (i.e. is it an easy procedure?).

Mine is 2010, but I haven't had any issues with the trans.. called the dealer and they said they don't know anything about this... what else can I tell them, is there going to be a recall or..??
Mine is 11864, so I guess I'm safe.

Owners manual supplement, "Filling the transfer case to the drain fill plug is no longer adequate. You need to add 0.25L (8.5 ounces) after you fill to fill plug. Install fill plug and add 0.25L through speed sensor hole per instructions on bottom of transfer case.
Another way I used is to jack up the drivers side and air down to 12 lb on passenger side of vehicle. This raises the fill plug in relation to the drain plug, I was able to add 0.25L ATF.
Since the transfer case only holds 1.6 qt, I changed it to Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, approved for H Specification. Since I do it myself, only the best for the H3.

5 minutes to remove speed sensor, add fluid and re-install versus how long to jack up vehicle, deflate/inflate tires? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Wow, H3'er you might be low VIN man. Got mine in June and it's 0389. After my water adventures, I have already changed all my fluids, except for the transmission.

Since they give you no instructions on how to remove and install the speed senor, I prefer to tilt vehicle with jacking and air down tires. Next time I do it I will measure the degree of tilt required, as this is where the fill hole should have been placed.
This is only maintance problem I have discovered on H3, front and read axels have drain plugs and easy refill.

Save time next chang. Toward the top left rear of the trans case, by the crossmember. Add Exactly 250 ml (8.45 oz) of DEXRONŽIII fluid, install plug.
Fill hole was correct for all other applications, angles a bit different on the H3.

Thanks for the information, Do you know what other vehicles they use this transfer case in?
