The dealer says they have a clearcoat for the exterior to save paint fading. an undercoat for rustproof and sound deadning and an interior coat for fabric protection and trim fading. all this for about 450bucks. and when you trade your vehicle in they give you 200bucks of it back. anyone else get this info from their dealer and did you do it? is it just a dealer moneymaker scam? I'm more inclined to have the underside Rhino'd or Linex'd than anything else. what do ya'll think?? thanks for the conversation and or tips.

Scotchguarding an interior runs about $15, I can about guarantee you that's what they'll use. Those things are historically the moneymakers for a dealer. It's not a scam or anything, but those are high margin items. They say they'll offer you $200 for it at trade in time, but how many people do you think a)trade it at the same dealership, and b)remember the $200 offer?

When I bought my Audi 5 years ago it had a teflon sealent called Auto Armor...I was sure it was a scam and made the dealer take the $400 charge off the invoice. I'm sold on it now...the car still looks absolutely new (parked in the sun 5 days a week) and I've yet to wax it. I plan to take the H3 in for this treatment.

My dealership offered me something similar. They said they would Scotchguard the interior and put a paint protection (wax) on every six months for life for $450. I told them it was a rip-off and they ended up giving it to me for free, including the wax job every six months.

the user manual my 3 came with said that the undercarriage was dipped in a giant tub of treatment and that treating it further while not only unrecommended, could cancel out what they have already done for treatment of the undercarriage. So I'm curious why my dealership pushes the same thing?

my dealer tried to sell us xzhon. it was protection for the entire vehicle (inside, outside, under carraige). it was going to be around $750. it was supposed to last for 5 years. his example was they put this on the paint and then spray painted a spot. the spray paint wiped off with one swipe. who knows?

AND my dealer offered to sell me the BROOKLYN BRIDGE but I knew it wasn't in Brooklyn anymore.

DEALER OPTIONS are the BEST moneymaker for dealers. I don't begruge them making money but I always say: "BETTER IN MY POCKET INSTEAD OF THEIRS" I firmly believe STUDY before you spend the hard earned buck...

The Scotchguard and Desert Protection was all standard on mine...At no extra $. I would question this from the dealer.

thanks all for the replies. I'll keep the cash in my pocket. It seems like the manufacturer of the carpet and seats would have done their own version of scotchguard before they ship and the paint on all my other GM products doesn't fade and very few chips if at all. as for the undercarriage, well, it's steel, and it's going to rust.
I plan to put custom camo seat covers on(im a hunter), so seats will be protected anyway. and as for the carpet. If it were easy, i'd strip the carpet, rhino line all steel and replace carpet. will help with sound deadning. i'd even consider doing the roof under the headliner.
thanks again for the advise all.

I assume you mean Foothill College. Nope, wasn't me. The H3 hasn't been above the grade in a few weeks.
