View Full Version : performance gain
Does anyone know if there is a performance gain by removing the resonator or not? If there is how much? I dont want an exhaust system costing $500 or so, which all exit the rear, getting ripped off he first time I wheel with it if there is no real gain in overall horsepower or torque.
You probably would not notice anything except a slightly louder exhaust note. The free-flow cat back systems are tuned to the vehicle and help reduce backpressure. You can shop around to find exhaust systems for less than $500. I just bought a new Magnaflow system for $450. I think you can find Gibson systems for $300+. Then there is the option of going to your local muffler shop and having something custom fabricated for even less. It just won't be shiny stainless steel.

you could have the entire shop-built exhaust system chromed! That would be SICK!

So how do you like the Magnaflow system. Does it have a pretty good sound to it? How is the sound inside? That is a pretty good price for that system. The cheapest I found it was on eBay for $500. Where did you get yours?
I just ordered the system 4 days ago... I haven't received it yet but I will post once it comes in and is installed.
I bought it from www.premiertruckaccessories.com (http://www.premiertruckaccessories.com) (no affiliation) and their prices for a lot of stuff is way cheaper than ebay. Then they have stuff that is outrageous. Check them out.

And then you have to polish and wax it once a month too. Fun!

You have to "put the item in the cart to get the special price"... Try it again and put it in the cart and then look at the price...

There is probably some performance gain. According to dyno graphs and dicussion with three exhaust manufactures, the gains for a complete exhaust is about 8 HP. The SMA/B&B exhaust doesn't have a resonator and Borla and most others do have a resonator with the same performance gains.
One restriction seems to be the bent pipe before the cat. It's not mandrel bend and is crushed somewhat. The crushed portion may have half the cross sectional area as the normal area (didn't measure though).
