I assume others have popping exhaust and wanted to know if you received the statment from the dealer that I did, "These are big trucks and normal, nothing we can do"? The popping occures while running and not, hot and while cooling. Not a big deal, however does bug me!

According to dealership that is a TSB, they think that they have a fix for it.. Not sure.. We will see as mine is in the shop and that was on the list..

I just had this fix applied last week. I can still hear the popping noise, but it is much quieter--more in line with expansion noises in other cars. The loud popping no longer resonates through the air hundreds of feet...

Here's a link to the TSB:

I had my dealer apply the TSB fix too. I concur with N23 - makes it quieter but doesn't completely eliminate it.

Sorry to say it sounds like maybe not, at least until they decide what it really is. I did go to dealer #2 not telling them I already went to another on the problem, said that the way the BIG truck is. I am sure more to come!

I'm surprised how little dealers know about the TSBs. Thanks to Klaus where more knowledgeable then they are in some ways. You usually talk to some 'service advisor'. They're ones that come back with the generic answers like "well, what do you expect from a big truck?". I once a had a problem with my WJ where I had some unexpected vibration while driving. The standard "well, it's a jeep so don't expect it to ride like a Cadillac" answer was given. After pushing them to look at it they did find a problem.

Anwyay - I would say YES it's worth getting the TSB applies for the pinging sound. I does substantially reduce the sounds to normal levels.
