Not talking about the oil change....the 5,000 mile first service...

If you are doing "service" at 5K you are overmaintaining, but the dealer will gladly profit. Check the manual.

Our dealer (Hummer of Thousand Oaks) does the first oil & filter change free. So far (60 days), we have nothing else that needs attention.

I took mine in last Saturday for its' 5K oil change. Had a couple of minor noises that they corrected...but they found 2 nails in one of my tires...one in the sidewall...Soooo...$50 Oil & Filter change & a $80 + Labor for Tire replacement(they just used one of the several tires they had in stock that others had upgraded from). When is the first service due?

I hope that $80 Labor charge included the cost of the used tire.

Nope. He charged me $80 for the tire and $30 to balance & put it on...I was 's#%*^&d' because he showed me the tire and the 2 holes from nails....one was clearly in the sidewall. I thought it wasn't a bad price...the tire was effectively new anyway...give or take a few hundred miles.

Thats not bad. I thought that they charged you the $80 for the mount and balance which would have been bad.

I was able to purchase tire insurance when i signed the papers to buy my H3. It added $4.00 to each monthly pymt but i get my tire replaced for free if it becomes defective for any reason,"example-gets a nail stuck in it. Pretty good deal. If any of you buy from Sewell Hummer ask John Lopez about it. Everyone i dealt with at Sewell Hummer was fantastic !!!

Hummer of Thousand Oaks, as stated before, provides the 1st oil change for free. But I am thinking of changing it soon myself and putting synthetic in. Any avid synthetic users out there. When should I start using it, immediately or wait for the first oil change to allow proper break-in.? I only have about 600 miles so far. Also, who has the GM number for the Oil filter?

See if your dealer will change it to synthetic for you.

I think someone else on this H3 forum has already done it.....I could be wrong.

That is my plan switching to synthetic. Probably mobil one, I ran it in my SS and loved it.

fyi - synthetic is standard in Mercedes and Porsche products:

Mercedes - oil change intervals of about 9000 miles based on oil monitoring system in my wife's last car (2001 C240)

Porsche - recommended oil change intervals of 15000 miles or 1 year, whatever comes first. Keep in mind that Boxsters and Carerras have 9+ quarts of oil capacity.

OH OH! 29,765 on the odometer and I've changed my own oil, and rotated the tires myself at 12,000 miles. If it is up to me, my H3 will never see the dealer or a Jiffy Lube service bay in its life. Running strong with no problems!
