Towing with the H3

Currently we own an H2 and tow with it to CO once a year, and sometimes over to MO.

Thinking about trading the H2 in for an H3. My question in how well would the H3 tow 4000lbs. I realize they are rated at 4,500lbs. How would it preform in the mountains, steep hills, and on the flat land?

I understand the "numbers" really do not mean much in reality. However, we also own a Jeep Rubicon and it has a hard time pulling a 2,000lb load (rated at190 HP). With the 220 HP how well would the H3 pull a 4000lb load?

i just towed 3000 lbs this weekend and it was ok, i would say you will be hatin it goin over a mountain pass with a 4000lb load, also u may need brakes on the trailer.. u should borrow an h3 and test it out!

I think the automatic has that 4500 lb rating (probably what you have) like wannabeH3 said, you could do the pulling but it would be ugly over the mountains. I can drive my H3 over Snoqualmie pass in Washington at 75 no problem but no load. If I need to kick it up to 80 it is noticeable. I think the H3 would be comparable to your H2 since the H2 is heavier.

When in Colorado we plan to pull an trailer full of ATV's. This is probably closer to 2,500lbs. (Colorado Law states that any trailer cargo over 3000lbs is subject to trailer brakes) Our main concern is pulling our 3,500-4,000lbs ski boat through MO up and down their big hills.

How would the H3 preform when dolly towing a Jeep (4,650lbs) ? We do this often with the H2 and can pull any speed to be desired.
