I have done a search and found some good things. What would you guys say is the best remote starter you can get? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I currently have a Python unti in my H2. No problem with it at all. I am upgrading to an alarm/remote start (can't remember the name) that transmits vehicle data to a key fob. I also wanted it because it has a passive feature built into the alarm. You can set a time delay that if the alarm is not activated, it will arm itself.

I have the Clifford alarm with the remote start that I am very happy with. It has the remote with the full screen that you can use as a pager as well. It has remarkable range.with the small antenna mounted on the windshield.

Last week my stereo guy installed my NAV. Tomorrow he's suppose to install my cameras and the next week, my remote start and alarm. I know he's using the same system as I had on my Yukon. I think it's either a DEI or Python. They are both made by the same company but apparently one has a longer (bettter?) warranty.

He really knows his stuff, I'll be sure to let you know what brand it is.

DEI owns viper/python/hornet and just about anything else that can bite or sting you!! Clifford is also owned by dei. If you want the best possible security, technology, and quality then Clifford is the way to go. If you want the 2 way system then viper/python is the way to go. If you want the absolute best you can get (and don't mind spending a buck or 2) then get yourself the Clifford Avantguard 5.

I have the Clifford Avantguard 5. I have had it on a couple of vehicles and it is without a doubt the best. DEI has not come out with the window interface that will work on the 06 H2's yet. As soon as it is available it will be a solid system

You should berable to use a smartwindows4 module and just wire directly to the window motors unless something is drastically different in yours.

That's what was done in my Yukon. I was going to install it in the H2 but one thing at a time.

Kodiakz, what exactly is the difference between all the DEI companies? Isn't it a warranty issue? (or lack thereof on some of them?)

Thanks,

Mark

We tried to wire the smartwindows directly to the windows motor but because H2 has the button that puts all windows down or up it did not work in conjunction with them. Did we do something wrong???

I'm having a Viper 471xv 2-way remote start installed in my H3. I went with this model because I wanted feedback as to wheather the truck actually started. With the standard remote start I have on my 4Runner you have to take it on faith that the truck started (seeing as I can't see it from inside at work). Way too many times I have come out to find that the start up command failed. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

This Viper system should prevent that problem.

damn!All these good choices!

Really all I need is the remote starter...all the night rider choices are cool, but I do not really need them. I am just looking for a way to preheat the H2 in the cold mornings, or when I need to load the kido in there. Too bad there is not a way to turn on the heated seats too! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have an Autopage RS-850. It is a two way communicator w/ LCD. It works pretty well except when I go to a shopping mall where they have a lot of automatic doors. It is interfering w/ my signal.

I've had it for more than 2 years and the paint on the remote around corners are coming off. I asked the price of a new remote only from the manufacture and they said $139.95 + %5.50 for shipping. I think I paid $300.00 for the whole unit and paid the installer $200.00.

Vstomper, you could have your installer use one of the auxillary outputs from the system to activtate the heated seats. On mine, we did the heated seats as well as the all up or all down windows feature (hehehe-even dei said that one couldn't be done).

Debest, it you wired to the all up/down buttons with the smart windows then it was not done correctly. You need to wire directly to the motor wires as the all up wires are serial data and need to be tied into differently.

NO!!! NOt even close. Now the Avg5 does not have 2 way (yet), but it does have the most sophitocated sensors ever made (all 2 zone, remotely adjustable except the tilt which is a dei throw in), window rollup, full remote start with many extra options (low battery self start, low temp self start), anti car jack, battery bakcup siren, CODED valet switch, serial data ports, 16 channel remotes (waterproof), and on and on!!

kodiakz

Not too bad if you have done a few!! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Make sure you get the correct interfaces for the passkey bypass and the databus (door locks, oem arm/disarm). Let me know if you need a wire sheet and I will email you one.

I have a Viper alarm with remote start and it took the shop a while to install it and they had to get a couple of special relay for it. Unless you are extremely good with electronics I would not try it.

kodiakz,
I will try what you are suggesting for the windows. Will the windows still vent on the down side or will they work all up or all down when the alarm is armed and disarmed? Also what interface do I need to use for the heated seats???

kodiakz

The windows will vent and function properly. For the heated seats, you will need to open that switch and solder directly to the board. Then just tie that to one of the extra outputs from the alarm and all is good!

If you want to turn on your heated seats, you'll want a Fortin/Crimestopper GM-SL Bypass Kit. You'll need a bypass anyway to install a remote start in a H2, so you might as well get this one that has a few extras including turning on the heated seats and rear defogger when it's cold out. It controls the heated seats through the truck's data bus, so there's no need for extra wiring. It reads the temp from the existing data bus in the truck so there's no need to add a temp sensor and you don't have to remember to push an extra button on the remote to turn the seats on.

Mine should be here on Monday, but I won't have a chance to install it for another week or two.

Here's some info...

That is a good find!! Never seen that one before, but it looks identical to the others that are made by Bypasskits for just about everyone. I wonder if you will be able to select the temp at which the seats are activated? There is another version of that piece around that will give you control of the 3 passenger windows via databus as well.

VT - I don't know if you've made up your mind yet, or already had one installed, but here is a quick update.

I got my H3 (with Viper 571xv) the other day and everything has been great, except for it being colder than a witch's bewbe around here lately. Uggh. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Last night I took my wife and son out to get a Christmas Tree and dinner. We got the tree and had dinner and when I went to start the H3 the remote replied that the request had failed (different sort of beep). So I tried again and had success.

Now this may be the most obvious thing ever, but to me was perfect. I would have assumed that the H3 was running and then gone out to find a frozen truck. 2-Way remotes are great. I love this thing! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I would say Compustar I have it on all my cars....and my family as well....biggest range...I've had all of DEI (Viper/Python) nothing compares to distance of Compustar
