Well...........yes and no. The VAST majority of cars are stolen by "joy riders" and other assorted morons. They wouldn't know "On Star" from their a$$hole. But a pro? Disconnecting any alarms or trackers - such as On Star, is step one. Remember - if it is electrical, it can be turned off!
Ouch - sorry Black. Got good insurance?

Personally, I'm not certain I'd want it back. Who knows what kind of damage was done to it, what insurance would do for you and what a pain in the ass it would be to deal with the insurance company. Get your insurance check for the "missing in action" vehicle and go buy yourself a new one.
Hopefully that may make you feel better about the whole thing!! Not certain what the insurance company would pay out to you but you may want to look in to it.
Sorry to hear about your dilemna! Go with LoJack next time.

I am not worried insurance, what kind of alarm does a H2 have??? It was broken into 2 weeks ago and just stuff was taken, alarm didn't go off, my Tahoe parked beside it the alarm did go off but not the H2. Just pushed in the lock. Now I go to a movie and come out and it is gone. Phoned police and Onstar at the same time and they can't find it.

Not much of an alarm, as in the previous post it is a preventive from non-professionals. If a pro wants it there is little yo can do. Secondary alarm with pager is good.

Very crappy news. It is times like this one wishes they have a remote hooked up to a brick of C4 in their H2.

Sorry to hear about it, that really sucks. The alarm is very basic and if they pop the lock it will not go off.

See? The Hollywood f()ckers will get ya one way or another every time. Seriously, that really stinks. You are making me reconsider our security policy here in So Cal. We lock up when we go in to the city, but currently, we just leave the keys in the ignition at home so they don't get lost. I LOVE small, rural towns! We never even lock the doors to our house! Even when we go away for the weekend or something, we leave the house open in case one of the neighbors needs something! Of course, having three hundred and fifty pounds of Rottweillers in the yard doesn't hurt. They look SCARY! Only the neighbors know they are loveable little furballs.
Sorry again for your loss. If you get another, install a good alarm with a pager. It is the ONLY way to go in a high risk area. Most people only get annoyed by the sound of a car alarm but, with the pager, YOU are notified and can "resolve" the situation. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

FOUND!!!!! Well by the cops, not OnStar!!!!!
It was involved in a incident, but not an accident. They were chasing it and it went through several stop signs and I guess they bailed. Its being finger printed right now and I can't see it til tomorrow. The cop said the only damage he could see was the door lock and ignition.

Sweet - remember there could be damage the cops cannot see. You never know what these s h i t bags do. look at the underbody. CHECK EVERYTHING!!!

The alarm with the pager is a great idea, but having a visual deterrent like the "club" doesn't hurt. I also placed thosed Onstar stickers on the windows just in case. The JC Whitney catalog also contains a whole lot of gadgets you might want to consider. good luck for next time.

WOW! I just read this but glad to hear it was found! If you do get an alarm consider getting a commercial alarm or an alarm with a back up battery system not connected to the
vehicle's electrical system. A practiced thief will crawl under your car and cut the car battery's ground cable; this will disable nearly every car alarm ever made.
A while ago I almost purchased a metal box that protecdted the battery. It seems the bastards would drill right through your fender and into the battery draining the power so they could tow it away. Either way a backup battery system may be a good thing. I may have the VISION GUARD 6000 (http://www.me-mag.com/ProductList.aspx?SectionCode=01&searchwords=Vision%20Guard%206000) installed. It will snap a picture of the thief and send it to your key fob remote. You can also snap a picture at will!
It's also a remote starter.

Sorry to heard bud! I've been broken into twice. (Las Vegas) Once in my guard gated driveway (window smash and grab) The second was at a local mall that I NEVER go to. Well almost never. They A-holes went in under the door handle surround and popped the lock. Took both TV's and a few other expensice items. The cops and my local bealer said they see about 4-5 a month then usuall a spike of 10 over a weekend. These a-holes know what they're doing.

I've heard many mixed stories and claims about devices that are supposed to deter...
I thought the scty system inside the key ignition itself was supposed to be a good deterent.
Any ideas on products? What about the device that hooks onto the steering wheel AND the brake pedal?
Also, if you VIN number in your windshield isn't covered up, people can take that and make a key for your H2. I've heard a same story about the numbers on your key itself.
What's the story with onstar? Was it dis-abled? Is that why onstar couldn't find it?

This system will call your cell phone and tell you where your vehicle is. http://www.kickyride.com/gps2000.html

I will let you know what the story is with the On Star when I get to see the H2. I asked On Star if they removed the antenna if they still could located and they said they should if it is in a good reception area.

Thought Canada was safer, hmm well good to see they found it. What is On-star's policy, I did not know they would help find stolen vehicles??? Can't they disable engine remotely??

That would be a liability nightmare for them.

OnStar is totally useless in some areas. They can't locate my truck in my driveway, but they can locate it in other parts of town. And the ironic thing is that they can locate my husband's truck in the driveway, parked literally 8" away from my H2!

Can someone verify if you can get a key made by having a VIN?
Black 05
10-15-2005, 01:30 AM
Well went and looked at my H2 at the salvage compound and the plastic around the steering column was broken, put my key in and everything works fine. Push the Onstar button and they answered and told me where I was. I said correct and this is a stolen vehicle and you are suppost to looking for. Oh? she said. Well long story short they don't know what the problem is. The antenna is fine, no fuses pulled, it doesn't look the hood was opened. They didn't put more than 10 miles on it.We are going to phone Onstar this evening as see what they have to say.
Black 05
10-15-2005, 03:38 AM
Ok phoned Onstar from home and asked if they can make a connection, they said yes, everything is working fine. They located it. So this is my theory, they steal a vehicle, drive it to a underground parkade, wait 48 hours ( because thats how long Onstar will attempt to track) then use the vehicle in a crime.
HummerNewbie
10-15-2005, 11:47 AM
Glad to hear most everything is fine and I bet you are right about driving it to some place to hide it for a while.
Daveh2, as far as I know you can but it isn't easy for somebody without connections to get one made.
