Maybe I haven't looked in the right place but, can anyone tell me what rear axle the h3 has? Is it a narrowed 10 bolt borrowed from the 1/2 tons? And while we're talking about it...what front axle does it have? What is the transfer case model # ?

what trans case does it have? Are both ratios the same case? Are the 4.56:1 diff gears available with both auto & man. trans. ? I really appreciate all the info cause I plan to order an H3 early next year.

Borg Warner makes both transfer cases, model 4493 is used on the standard H3 and has a 2.64:1 low range reduction ratio. The 4494 is used in the off-road package (adventure series) and has a 4.03:1 ratio. (That's why the off-road crawls like a 4700 lb. snail with hemorrhoids http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)
Both autos have the 4.56 gear, but not sure about the manual. Just looked up a manual and per the build record, it also has the 4.56 rear end. Just learned something.

You mention looking at a build record. Is there someplace I can go to look at an H3 shop manual? I really enjoy learning the nitty gritty about trucks. You seem to be quite an H3 enthusiast, I imagine if I ask enough of the right questions I too will become a "Hummer Expert". LOL Are the under carriage guards & the rocker guard tubes part of the "off road package" or are they priced separately?

Sweet I was just wondering today what rear-end and gear it had... I thought it crawled like a 5200LB snail though... My mistake. Thanks for the Great info.

Service manual has some specs, but the build document is on a GM restricted system, where info on every GM vehicle is listed (other than Saturn and Saab which have their own systems). The build document lists everything that came on the vehicle.
All Hummer comes with the same skid plates, the rocker panel protectors, as well as the extra under body protectors for trans and transfer case are optional. Easy to install, easier with two people.

Is the center differential open or limited slip (viscous) when not in the lock position? Also f5fstop said the rear diff is a 8.6- Is the front diff also an 8.6?

Hey F5fstop,
What axle do they use in the front?
Are there 4.88 gears available front and rear and does Eatom make an E-locker for the front?
Cheers
