stock filter

I need to know if the stock filter was longer, and came up to the fender wall inlet would that restrict air flow that much? I'm doing a test, and the filter is tapered vs.the barrel shaped stock. It would be with the stock cover on. Know all about the K&N's etc. Just need to know if this length to the fender inlet is a major negative. Thanks!
