Anyone figure out these damn trailer brake hook-ups yet???? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
I bought the 2003 trailer brake hook-up kit and yes IT DOES NOT WORK!!! Some people posted that it worked fine, but the controller light stays on when NO TRAILER is hooked up. That means that there is a short somewhere.
ANY SUCCESS on getting the blue wire to work????
Thanks,
ROB

I took the one out of my 02 HD Chevy truck and put it in my 03 Chevy truck and the light stays on.
Controller works fine w/ light on.
I put it in my 03 GMC truck and light is on but haven't pulled my big trailer yet.
So I don't know why light is on but I get home I will look at the blue wire and see what I can find out.
I haven't had time to put the controller out of 02 Suburban in the H2 yet.
Might try to do it Sunday.

I bought the GM harness P/N15085418 and hooked up to a Tekonsha Voyager controler and everything works fine. No light until the trailer plug is connected, just like its supposed to.
My truck has a production week of 12/16/02 vin 120884. I wonder if they might have a modification in the electrical harness somewhere on different vehicles.

Thanks guys.
I do have the front lights and the roof lights, but I pulled all of the hookups out of the control box.
I kept the wires hooked up for the trailer brakes and went to the rear of the truck and had my daughter hit the brakes. I Wanted to see if the rear connector was getting any juice and NOTHING for the trailer brake http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif.

Phil,
I DID NOT connect that blue wire back up. I will look tomorrow and see if I can get that done.
Thanks,
ROB

Go with the GM harness it takes all the trial and error out of it!

GOOD CALL PHIL
I don't have factory off road lamps that why my controler works properly. I checked in the shop manual and that circuit can go to ground through the lamp filaments, off road light relay coil and through the switch LED also if the switch happens to be in the closed position while checking the circuit.
Rob one word of caution. DO NOT allow 12 volts to feed back into the brake wire on the controler. It will fry the brake controler if its like mine.

quote:
Originally posted by PhilD:
Rob, If you follow the positive feed for the front grille guard lamps, you will se that it goes up underneath the Front BEC cover, this cover is held on by plastic clips and then posp off. But it is a real pain to get totally off. I found that by removing the fuse box cover and lifting up the plastic shroud, you can get into it enough to get to the connector okay. You will find two blue wire connectors, that looks like fuse holders, one will be attached to the feed for the front lights, the other will not be connected to anything. Disconnect the lights, and then connect the two blue wires and the circuit should work.

YOU GUYS KICK ASS!!!! I just got done putting the controller in and everything was just like Phil said. Now when I need the trailer brakes I just quick disconnect the lights and plug in the harness in the conrtoller box and there we go!!!
Thanks to all,
ROB
