Ok here is the scoop. I went to my dealer to get my camshaft regulator replaced (engine light & warranty). I saw that the accessories department had a box full of Hummer H2 Black Hood Handles (replaced for Chrome) I asked for a set and I put them on the H3. Looks good I had to retrofit the bottom but all in all it came out like I wanted. Go to your dealer and ask if you are interested and adding this FREE Feature.......

what are those handles for? is it to open the hood panel and is there an opening there? :D thanks

Just looks. In the H1 the Hood Handles are really Helicopter Transport Handles and on the H2 they truly are used to Pull open the Hood. The Hummer H3 lacked this feature. The H3 is just a snap on Hood panel, it has no true function :-(

Detailed retrofit and installation instructions please. Do the hood handles come with mounting hardware?

Oh great. Now H2 owners have to worry about their hood handles getting ripped off by 3bies. nice. :)

Install was easy. Here is what you need to do.

1- Get (2) Black H2 Handles from your local dealer (FREE)

2-Take off your H3 Hood Panel

3- Grind off the mounting screws on the bottom of the H2 Handles.

4- Mark your H3 Panel for Drill and Drill your 4 Holes for the Handles
(2 Holes on each Side)

5- Install your handles by screws from the bottom with Drywall, Metal or wood screws.

6- The Top will be flush mount but the bottom will be raised a bit, I bought black silicone and filled in the gap to make it look flush.

7- Put the Panel Back on and you are done.

******INSTALL TIME IS LESS THAN 30 MINUTES******

It looks good, but I think it would look better if you ground the front to a flush angle instead of using the silicone filler.

Thats what I said at first, but You cant, its a plastic 2 Piece bottom. If you grind it it will fall apart :-(

I installed H2 hood handles on my H3 today. The handles were placed dead center on the outer strips of the hood insert. I ended up with a 1/4" gap at the bottom of the handles at the front mounting location. I used a poly-foam material to make gaskets to fill this gap (worked pretty nicely) but I wondered if any of you guys had the same problem or if we messed something up on the install??

Nope thats the gap you get. I used a black silicone to fill my gap. You would never notice it unless I pointed it out.

POst pics if you have them :-)

Thanks for the tip. I may have to do that in the future, dependent upon the durability of the poly-foam. Did you just inject it underneath or did you use som type of mold? I thought that one could possible use a strong packing tape to surround the handle bottom. Then, through a small hole in the tape, an injection of this silicone could be administered. Sound reasonable?

Also, what is the VR stand for in your ADV H3 description?

I used tape: VR is Victory Red

I'd be afraid of some tree hugger grabbing them as I run over them, almost need to grease the hood and grille so they don't stick :D

Anyone install a set of chrome metal ones yet on the H3?

I really think they stick up too much, so I want to "hack" off about 1 inch from the bottom and not have the weird gap to fill with RTV or gasketing.

Cutting method? Wet saw so the chrome doesn't discolor?

Also, are the chrome ones hollow or solid?

Are you sure those are off an H2. Those are for sale for the H3 in the 2008 Hummer apparel, accessory and vehicle accessory catalog on page 91. I think the H3 handles and the H2 handles are different. i might be wrong though. i'm usually only right about 99.998% of the time. :giggling:
