In three+ years you may have a neighbor. I plan on retiring to that area in 2010. Not sure where I will live, not sure I want a house, just a place to rest my head. Be too busy doing other things to cut the grass (then again, they really don't have much grass there).
I might even go work for the Park Service at Arches. Seems they like old retirees; especially those who used to work for the Feds years ago.

I sold out 4 months ago and now live in the middle know where with the deer and bears.
City life, for me, well you can take the country boy out of the country. But, you can't take the country out of the boy.
I was raised here on a bacon maken farm (hog farm for you city slickers) so I am just returning to the life I missed.
My house is on the side of a mountain, and rather large pond is to the left of my house, and below that is my shop. I purchased 11 acres with the home. The house needs to be updated, and in time it will be done.
Congrates to you, I hope you find your new space as wonderful as I have found mine.

Hey F5, PLEASE tell me you'll have your C5 when you come to retire. I don't know how many live there right now. I may be the only one shortly. We're selling the 82 CE and I'll be driving the Hardtop. I'm going to stick out like a sore thumb in that thing in Moab. Ought to be fun! Yes, Neo and I make a pair, he in the blacked out H3 and me in a torch red vette. Lookout Moab :p

Hey girls, any help would be great, thanks for the offer I'm sure I'll need some input with things. Maybe email you two pics with my ideas and get your input. I have a house and huge yard with a creek to do SOMETHING with. It'll take time, but I think will be fun for Neo and me to do ourselves.
The really hard part will be driving out of town all packed up. We're leaving two family's, friends from childhood, friends at work, and a Corvette club where everybody knows who we are, even though we don't know them. It's ok though, the club is way bigger than when we joined 6 years ago and sometimes a real pain in the toush. I'll miss everyone I'm sure, but can't wait to start our new life in Moab.
I'll most likely be online with you guys all the time. :grouphug: I'll need you all for company.
BeBe: there will ALWAYS be a spot for you and your family in our home. :D I've been packing all weekend down at Mom's house. Help! I've got way too much crap! And I still have stuff to pack at Neo's.

Sorry, C5 should be sold in a few months, that is if I ever get the transmission back in; finally got the engine back in and learned a valuable lesson with that a year ago.
It will be just me my little 110 lb doggie, and my H3 (or who knows, maybe an H4:D ) when I retire to the great southwest.
However, there are C5s in Moab. There used to be a Blue C5 parked at the Moab Mercantile on the east side of main street (just south of 100), in the heart of the T-shirt/restaurant district. Seen it there quite a lot, so I figure it has to be an owner of one of the businesses.
Also seen a red one pulling into a driveway up on the LaSal mountain loop road, into quite a house with one hell of a view. So, there are Vettes out there; if no club...start one.:D
I have to say, I'm jealous as hell. That is the most beautiful part of the USA I have ever been, and I have been in almost all of the USA. Not much of a mountain climber with the H3, but for views like this (only a few minutes from your new house), and a camera, Moab is the place to live.

I don't know you either, but thank you! You'll have to drive out for Hummer Week next Spring!
Ain't nothin worse than traffic in the San Fernando Valley outside LA. Nothin worse. You'll have traffic backed up at all hours, not just during the day. Dumb. And poor Neo has to drive to and from that mess down there. And.... going to my Moms in Ventura is a joke. I left at 1 pm last Friday, drove about half way down the Conejo Grade and stopped. It sucked. So I take the Back Way, it's longer and takes more time, but there's farms at least to look at and lots of trees. At least I'm moving, I HATE standing still or going like 10 mph.
No traffic in Moab except for special events, so I can't wait! I'm sick of hearing all these car alarms too. lol

Sewie and West, thanks for the info, I'll look at that site later, it's about 18th on my list of things I need to do before Moab. :giggling: That plate looks cool you guys...... I guess you get 30 days to get a new DL and 60 to register your vehicles.
Anyone know if there's a state fee for bringing vehicles into Utah? We've got 2 trucks and a vette to bring into the state. The vette not till we get a garage built so we've got time on that one, but both trucks will be going with us for sure.

Convert it to a 4x4. There is a 4x4 Porsche that drives around Moab.:D
Or, sell it in Utah.
Have you looked online at the corvettforum or ebay for the pump? Doesn't GM still carry them in stock? I know a guy who runs a vette restoration shop in Sterling Heights MI. If you need help, I can call him. He might have a source (he should).
I would love to deliver in person, but it is more for Neo, unless you do work on the H3?:D

Chit Dang Bro, Great decision. Now that you will live there I have a lot of places to suggest you visit. I have been going to that part of the country several times a year for many years and still have not been to many places I want to go and many more I want to go back to. Looks like I may be one of the Closest forum peeps to you now....Moab is only 4 hours from here. (you are less than 6 hours from Denver as well) We will definetly stay in touch for our next trip there...maybe after I get back from Hawaii or late October.
You are going to love it...if you can find work you like. Most jobs are tourism related which is a lot like where I live as well.

Hey Packer, yep you'll definately have to send us some sort of list. I've already got one started in my little head of the obvious places like all of Canyonlands, four corners, grand canyon, among a few others. If you've got some cool places and/or stuff to go see, let us know in a couple months once we get kinda settled. I don't care if I have to clean rooms in Moab, Or muck out horse stalls, or work in one of the little shops. I won't make as much as out here, but how much do you need to make to live in Moab anyhow. lol Besides, Steve's heard/seen some pretty nice tips for the room attendants, wait people, bell hops. Everyone's on vacation, having a good time and wants to spend their vacation fund, I've got no problem with that. lol And I'd get to meet folks from all over which would be cool. Who knows what kind of jobs we'll get. Steve should get one as a guide or maybe in a 4x4 shop, he'd like both of those I think. But before that, I've got a HoneyDo list for him that should keep him busy till like Christmas! lol Thanks a bunch Packer, was nice meeting you in Moab.

Wow F5! Those are some shots! I think those are way better than one's we've seen on postcards! You should send those in to, um, to, whoever makes the cards in Moab. lol We took the back way over to Bryce (can't recall the road numbers) and camped one night, that drive was very cool. Even had cows in the road, and btw, they don't care about honking the horn, they just look atcha and probably are laughing inside. Anyhow, we drove past Natural Bridges and Escalante but didn't have time to stop and check them out. Next time. Isn't Glen Canyon on the way to Bryce the long way also? What was that nat'l forest we went in and out of so many times? Saw Jacobs Chair, that was neat. Yep, all of Canyonlands for sure. Whenever you want to come out, just let us know. :)

I'll take your suggestion, but we're kinda running out of time. I'll just non op it for now, then hunt down a pump. There's one guy in my club who's looking through his shed for one. lol Thanks much and I'll let you know if I need your help F5. I try not to turn wrenches on the H3, I let Steve handle that but I do assist. lol You're welcome to visit anytime, just give us a call or email.Nav, $825 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/82-corvette-factory-smog-pump-w-diverter-valves-12k-m_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33610QQihZ019QQitemZ8 063543021QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V) on ebay. Expensive for used, but when time's of the essence.. (u could always ebay the parts u don't use ;))

Thanks folks for the help. Steve looked at my Vette yesterday and seems to think that I only need the pulley part that got sheered off. The 3 bolts are still in there. I'll take it by my Vette tech within the next week or two and see if he can fix it by just finding a pulley or is there more damage that I don't know about. It doesn't look like it. Anyhow, thanks again!

Hey Tim! Been packing man, been packing! I just hope I don't need anything else to wear, cuz most of my clothes I wrapped dishes up in and put in two big hard cased suitcases. That worked out great.
So when are you and your lovely Kiera coming to visit? How far will we be from you guys when we got to Moab? We'll have to find some time to come over to CO and you can show us around your trails. :excited:

Neo, it's been awhile since I posted or looked at the forum, Laurie and I bought out of state too! That's what we've been doing this past month, setting up our place up in Oregon. Congrats guy, seriously. We've got about two years (or less if we play it right) and we too will abandon the sinking Kalifornian ship. We tried, we really did. We LOVE our place up in the Sierras. 14 acres, great new home etc. but we've got to take care of all of our other business in Bakersfield (eeeeeeeyyyyyyuuuuuuccccckkkkk!!!!!)
It's just that anytime I see the ballot, it's got another $14billion initiative on it to educate furiners or to give 'em free health care. Everything's scratched up with graffitti. I had plans to drive north with a tortilla on my antenna until somebody asked "Whut's that!?" and we're pretty close to that in Tidewater.
We're downsizing from 14 acres to 1/4 acre, but it's on the river. Tell 'ya what, you can come fishin' and crabbin' on the Alsea, and we'll visit ya to go wheelin'! We're only an hour north of Florence Oregon which makes Pismo look like a cereal bowl full of nuts. We've got two rv spaces with full 50A, cable, water, sewer, phone hookup. When we move, we're putting in a regular house and garage.

Dayyyyummm Big Z, you've got QUITE the rig! I love those Custom Welds! It's funny, now that we got the second mortage, my wife's reaction to me looking at the larger boats was "yeah, RIGHT!" Anyway, the admiral let me have the R&B, and I'm a happy guy.
Thanks for the website, I have so much to learn, it's not funny. I'm more used to off-shore and this is allllll new to me. It's so darned beautiful up there. I think you folks perpetuate the crappy cold rainy reputation of the northwest on purpose to keep others out! (I'm with you there man!) I'm not a Kalifornian, I'm from Georgia, my wife was born in Oregon and her great grand daddy was an indian fighter/settler. SO, we're not just more Kalifornian's looking to jack up the prices there!
My wife's folks live in Corvallis. Man alive, there's a lot of Hummer hatin' going on there. I'm gonna end up stuffin' a Pious up someones asss.
