I got restless yesterday afternoon and went for a drive. Went up US 6 out of Golden and decided to wheel a little between Central City and St Marys Glacier. The weather was perfect and I made good time, so I decided to tackle Yankee Hill.

Most of the aspens have turned, but it's still beautiful up here. I would love to have one of these homes!

This is my first glimpse of St Marys Glacier, snaking its way down the mountain. It doesn't look like much since the drought, but it was even worse last year. Hopefully, our drought's really over and it will get back to its former glory, covering the entire slope for year round skiing and boarding.

This was taken from FR 175.3 heading west from Nevadaville.

Long shadows covered the trail as the afternoon faded.

And finally, Yankee Hill. No real boulders to dodge, but it's a steep stretch of loose rock and dirt straight to the top.

Here's the view southeast of Yankee Hill. The view was clear all the way to the plains.

Here's Yankee Hill on the way down. I love 1st gear in my 5-spd. It's so low it's hard to stall and you go so slow you have to really try to make it slip downhill.

And a quick look back out the sunroof :)

Man it's cold up here, windy too. It's brisk but I'm starting to get used to it ... brought my jacket but didn't ever put it on.

As I dropped into the valley and made my way down Fall River road, the sun set behind the mountains. The light faded as I drove down I-70 and it was dark by the time I got home. The moon rose full and yellow through the clouds and I took this final shot over Westminster.

What tires are you rollin' with?

Just the stock ones from the Adventure package. I'd love to get some 35" toyo MTs. That would be about perfect.
