View Full Version : Windshield Noise....getting worse.
Hello fellow 3-ers,
I know there have been many threads on this topic already....but does anyone know the definitive answer to the problem yet for windshield vibration/noise when doing speeds 70mph+?
I think I had my worst episode today when it happened again, but only this time my speed was 55mph with heavy crosswinds.
A pillars? Windshield molding? Roof rails? All of it? Why does my dealer service department act like I am the only one with this problem? I've only had my 06 H3 for 2 months now.
Please help this rookie 3-bie.
Thanks all!
Oh, and I also have the dash vibration at about 2000-2500 rpm that some others have mentioned.....Any input on this one would be greatly appreciated too. But I guess I am definitely more concerned about the rattling/exploding windshield sounds at speeds over 65/70mph right now.

i really dont know but my guess is maybe windshield wipers are loose, or coulb be the almost 90 degree windshield and the wind oassing right into causes the noise, but defintly get more opinions on it.

Well, I had water coming in our '06 right above the a-pillar. They took it in and replaced both sides top rail trim and a-pillar trim under warranty. The new parts are GREATLY improved and tighter fitting. There's also weather stripping that seals to the front windshield along the apillars. The noise has gone down considerably. Hasn't rained yet so I don't know if the water's stopped. As F5stop pointed out, I can't figure out why water would get past the other weather stripping just because of the cracked top trim, but it did. The much quieter H3 is just an added bonus!

Do you have marker lights installed? If so you may need the kit to fix the noise. Could be it. Or have you ever had the windshield replaced?

Sounds like your roof rails need to be replaced. Have you tried another dealer? It might be worth your time and agravation.

I had sent you a pm regarding mine. My A pillar mouldings were just replaced again a couple of days ago. The dealer told me that the Hummer rep insists that is the problem... having them glued down tight. Evidently my dealer has had several H3's in with the same problem. I haven't tested it yet on the freeway. I'll let you know if the shattering sound is gone in a couple of days.

I was having the same problem no roof lights lots of noise at freeway speeds. Took it in to dealer Sherman Oaks Hummer. They replaced both front pillers and top rails. No more problems... They took care of me with no problems also gave me an 07 as a loaner..
Thanks all for the input!
Hmmm3, i read your PM. I hope this fixes everything for ya. I will try another dealer on Thursday.
Will keep all informed. Thanks again.

Wow. I'm glad I'm not the only one with a dealer who thinks I'm crazy:giggling:
My service man changed the A pillars and that seemed to get rid of the noise for about a week. It's back again and the service guy tells me this time- they don't know what else there is that they can fix to stop the noise. To me- it sounds like my windshield is going to fly off or explode. It's horrible. I've just decided that turning the radio up rather loud drowns out the noise and it seems that it's the only fix I can get. Good luck with yours. Let me know if you figure out what it is and what can be done to fix it. So far- I"ve had A pillars replaced twice and the roof rails once.

ASLW, I took my 3 onto the freeway this afternoon to test the new A pillars. I drove up to 72mph .. no windshield shattering sound. I had had the A pillars replaces once before for a peeling problem, but maybe they didn't glue them down enough. I had only one roof rail replaced in the past .. the driver side (for a crack). No winds here today, so I don't know if this will hold true on a day with crosswinds .. but, so far, so good. I was beginning to hear it at 55mph. The service writer had told me the fix was gluing the A pillars down very well. Hope she's right! ;) I'll let you know if I begin hearing it again at any point.
Hmmm3, thanks for the reply....Sounds pretty promising with your 3....I dropped off my 3 this morning with a print out of all the info I have found from your windshield noise experience and several others.
They apologized half heartedly for not believing and said they'd look into it.....The service guy says that he "thinks" he might have heard about this problem before with only a few 3's.....what an understatement.
Right away they noticed the cracked roof rail on the right side and said that it must be the roof rail....however my windshield noise is upper left....no where near the cracked right rail....i just feel like they don't listen.
I told them about the hummer field rep talking about glueing the A pillar and then he just laughed and shook his head saying, "no no no, that can't be it".
I was in a hurry so I felt I had no choice but to just leave them my keys and be on my way to work....but in retrospect, i regret doing that. I feel like i left my baby with a blind and deaf baby sitter. I hope i get her back in one piece.
Wish me luck!

Pull your A-pillar covers off. Put 2 sided foam tape on the backside of them and put them back on. Problem fixed.
Here's the update...
they said they are replacing the a-pillars and i told them to be sure to secure them in place with adhesive...
But now thwy say that they need to keep my 3 a few more days since the stability system failure light came on today and they want to send it to their transmission specialist....something about a control module.
that's all i know for now....hope nothing else goes wrong.

Ohhh mannnn. I think I had that problem, too, early on soon after I bought mine. As I recall, it took a few days for the part to come in. Did they AT LEAST give you a good loaner to use? Can't wait to hear if all is well after you get your 3 back. Good luck and keep us updated.
