and one article said the back up drive was reformatted "by mistake" AND the 3rd option, backup tape...was unreadable!!!!

Tapes burned serveral clients I had years ago when i was consulting and I learned to do without them. Dam near anything is more reliable than tape backups. They are soooo fickle.
