View Full Version : Memorial Day Weekend in Moab 07

The Memorial Day weekend started on Thursday for me. I worked a graveyard shift Wednesday night, got home packed the truck and drove to Moab Thursday morning. We got down there had lunch, aired down, and ran Poison Spider with my friends Jeeps. Not a bad way to wrap up a 40 hour day!

I didn't get too many pics from Poison Spider, we just kept going till we got to the top.

Every one of these Jeeps is lifted, with lockers front and rear, and at least 488's (most are lower). Very capable machines.

Friday, Neo and I ran part of Metal Masher with them, then met after lunch to run Hells Revenge. We took an alternate route on Hells in order to run through some rocks rather than over the domes.

Here going into a narrow rocky wash. Neo's line was better than mine, I dragged several large rocks down through it with me. :D

Very nice (jeeps not stock) I will be up in Sept. and can't wait for my first time to moab

One of the Heepers left Metal Masher to meet his friend and they hooked back up with us on Hells. His little "Bummer" rig was running (bullet-proof) Rockwell military axles with 46 inch tires on 15 inch wheels.

He ran the rest of the day with us too. Heres Neo standing next to it.

His breakover angle was pretty good. :giggling:

Hells was a great time, but getting out was a BITCH!

"The squeeze" at the end will be stuck in my memory for awhile. Neo has good awareness of his rig or he would be missing much of the top of it! That got a little bit technical.

RuggedH2
05-28-2007, 02:28 AM
My kid (11yo) took the pics so they're not all in focus, but here's Neo following the "Bummer" out of the squeeze. The Bummer just drove OVER the whole obstacle.

RuggedH2

T-bars. Had to crank some to compensate for the weight of the winch.

Keys end up doing the same thing. I plan to upgrade the front shocks for longer extension. I'm looking at a few things involving that including new t-bars. Long story, search Bebe's posts.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Just checked my rear diff. No new leaks. Tightening up the drain plug on the bottom took care of things.
I also just ordered rocker protection from Rocky Road.

Next...Have to get the tires rotated and rebalanced. :jump:

Well from that angle...Damn! thats steep. Yeah, probably not. nice pics guys! :beerchug:

usetosellhummer - I dont think an H1 would make it either. That is strictlly a short wheel base obstacle. Looks like H1 would get hung up in the middle on the top edge. Looks like you would need lots of clearence if you had a long wheel base.

That is definitely something Jeep has that we don't. A real aftermarket.

With Jeep, the sky's the limit. We can't even get a lift that works off road. We should write FABTECH and tell them we want one (I already did).

I'm an optimist, the H3 has only been around a couple of years, I'm hopeful the manufacturers will see the $ and build some actual off road products for these trucks in the near future.

The rig is very capable from the factory, but we have nothing available to take them to the next level.

We will just have to see how the new front ends hold up, and I bet we see a lot of hardcore 06-07'ers going to the alpha front end. That seems to be our kryptonite. The best thing jeep has done is keep a straight axle up front. Its a lot easier to throw gussets on there and some bigger axles and youre bullet proof. Out of the box, I am stoked on the H3. I'll tow a trail rig when I make one thats ridiculous, go anywhere, status. Who wants to drive that on the road? :beerchug:

RuggedH2
05-30-2007, 04:17 PM
I like that I don't need a dedicated trail rig. I drive my truck down, wheel, and then drive it home. I like wheeling with air conditioning, lumbar supporting leather heated power seats when it's cold, satellite radio, CD changer, DVD players for the kids. :giggling:

I did my time as a grunt in the Marines, I understand the "hardcore attitude", I just prefer a little luxury for the family, ya know. :giggling:

I would like a real lift for additional clearance though. It would also improve the angles.

I plan on installing the new CI axle, with an E-locker when available. If I could get all this, and maybe some H3 H.D. Fabtech tie rods, I think I would be content for awhile. :D

Hey I just broke down today and bought a set of 5 BFG MT 35" they wll be in this wendsday. I also got a set of 5 16" H3 rims on ebay for 100 shipped, so I SHOULD be all set for the next trip to MOAB :jump: :jump: :jump:

Hey Pat was that E-bay seller out of SLC?

I'm thinking of painting an off road set black like Neo's. I would powder coat them, but eventually they are gonna get chipped. It would be easier to keep them looking decent with paint. Neo's still look great and he's had to touch them up a few times.

nope, he was in Kansas I believe. I am at work for the next 3 days and these damn Govt computes have eBay blocked but I did s search for "Hummer H3 Rim" and it popped up there. I really think the shipping price is a mistake (15 per rim and 25 TOTAL shipping for all 5 rims= 100.00) that?s to low. The guy had like 30 rims for sale said they were dealer take offs. Who knows, I'll just wait and see....

Damn Neo,

I knew after you watched Alec run up Wipe-out on Memorial Day, that you would run it also - from now on! You were looking at it like it was possible before he made it up (kinda looked like you were weighing the risk versus the reward in your head. Once you saw that it could be done, I knew you'd run it!) :D

That run almost looks suicidal when you're standing in it checking it out! The Hummers just crawl right up it! Cool! Now I want to run it myself. :beerchug:

Hey can you send me the full res pics you took that day of me.... I'll PM you with my email. Looks like no more trips for me to Moab till this fall. We are heading to the North East for aug. and for the whole month of Sept we have a huge inspection at my base. So hopefully I'll be back over in Oct with Simian.

Thanks
Pat

You guys and your green trucks.

I like the look..... you know, Desert Sand has a green to it. Think I might just fit in with you guys. Maybe even do away with the chrome and go with the HOABie look too. :D

Neo, My buddy with the black YJ Wrangler sold it and bought a new JK unlimited. He's putting a long arm kit with 37's on it. He's talking about September back in Moab (after we get back from Sturgis in August).

It's been a lot of wheelin this summer for ya, but if you're up for it, we gotta keep going through the fall (it's not so damn hot). ;) :)
