Okay everyone,

Its about that time that I get an alarm system. I have not put one in my H2 because, well, were I live there really isn't that much crime, and if anyone steals my H2, I am on an island so go figure, right?

But I would like one because of the security and because I very much dislike carrying around that big factory door opener from GM.

So, if you all can give me your 2 cents about it, and maybe where I can get them, well I will be very happy, and its always nice being happy. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Please post some pics if you can.

You can get a good alarm at almost any car stereo retailer. The problem is finding some one that you trust to do the install. 95% of how an alarm works relies on the install. If you want to drive your H2 over to California I could help you out,HAHAHA! Just kidding...I have found that any brand of DEI is very good and user friendly for the installer and the customer. They are concidered top of the line and can do everything from remote door locking to opening your sunroof. If you need email me and I will send you a tech sheet on where all the wires are that you need for the alarm install. Good luck! C

Thanks Circuitguy,

That would be great, I am thinking about a Compustar Alarm system, I rember someone mentioning it so I looked into it, and I have a company called Gottack installing it soon, with a module for the keyless enttry and roll down up of the windows.

I think they are part of Auto Tek, but I am not sure, does anyone know how to see if the installers are good or not?

Circuitguy, if you could e-mail those specs to me that would be great... zen@hawaii.rr.com , and when I atttack the boat add on to my H2, I will drive it over.. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

VU, I got the CompuStar Alarm. Its great! Get the remote starter option, you won't regret it. It has a remote feedback to tell you if your car is started or if someone is tampering with it. It works from about 3000 feet. I believe there is a new model now that works from about 6000 feet away.

Will after market alarm system interface with the H2s computer? When I unlock the truck with the H2 remote it programs the truck for my settings (seat, radio, mirrors, etc). Do you lose this capability with the after market system?

Not if its done right. The aftermarket remote won't trigger your settings, but the H2 key will. You have to change the DIC settings on "Key In".
When you program your settings for driver 1, make sure that key is in the ignition, likewise with driver 2. Even when you use the remotes, so everything works properly and so you won't lose your setting, key 1 has to be in for driver 1 and key 2 has to be in when programing driver 2.

Or, each time the memory function control button (1 or 2) on the driver's door is pressed and released while the vehicle is in PARK (P), a single chime will sound and the corresponding driver's personalized settings will be recalled.

Hey all,

Okay, looked into it more, JohnnyBoy, can you please tell me which Compustar sytem you have, because I was told that the model that I was looking at, 2WSS-AS, would need a module to use the keyless entry function on the car.

I don't know if they told you the same thing or not, but they said it would cost about $800 for the total install. I am hoping they don't mess things up, but I did call Compustar and they did stated that these were the offical dealer for Compustar on in Hawaii, I hope that they will install it correctly.

How does the starter work?

Any info, or pics would be great

Thanks all,

VU

My system is the 2WFM-AS (2 Way FM Series with Auto Starter). The new one they have out is the 2WSS-AS (2 Way Spread Spectrum with Auto Starter).
The Spread Spectrum is more secure and goes a lonter distance. Auto Starter works great and gives you a visual and audio feedback to the remote when Hummer starts. Mine cost me $650 installed. That was complete, with Alarm, Auto Starter, Remote Pager, shock Sensors, 1 remote, hood mounted kill switch and Siren. I'll take some pics and post them tomorrow. The offical site is www.compustar.org (http://www.compustar.org)

JohnyBoy,

Thanks for the info, how did the install go?

I guess I am a little worried about the install, but I assume they will do a good job since, they were certifed by CompuStar.

How about the module for keyless remote, did you have to get one installed or did they just hardwire your keyless remote.

The guy tells me that I will be able to use the keyless remote, roll up my windows, and use the factory alarm, but don't know how good that is, so we will see.

The alarm system sound great, can't wait to get it, because I am looking to add more onto my car, and its always nice being able to know that things are safe in your car.

You might want to check out - or have your installer check out - this site. (http://transponderbypass.com/result.asp?vehiclemake=Hummer&vehiclemodel=H2&vehicleyear=2003&procedureid=car.asp)

Everything was included with my install. All required modules... everything.
It is true, the factory alarm still works when you arm your CompuStar alarm, I see it as a double safety. I just shut off the the factory horn chirp and let the CompuStar siren do all the chirping. I still haven't taken any digi pics yet, I'll try tomorrow.

Okay,

I was just quoted.. "The price for the alarm installed is $799.00 plus tax = $832.32"

Now, this is without the module that is needed for the keyless entry, he states that he can hardwire it, but that doesn't sound too good.

So what do you all think.. should I shop around some more.?

Thanks,

VU

Don't hard wire it buy the mod. Anyway $800.00 for an alarm and install sounds like a little much. Mabey in the $500 to $600 range with auto start, door locks, flash lights, starter kill, impact sensor, ect. Windows up and down would be at an extra cost. Email me with a fax number and I will send you a tech sheet on the H2. It will show all the wire colors and tech notes to help with install. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif C

My original price for mine was 800 bucks installed, including all moduals. Because I installed the DVD System he gave me the CompuStar for 650 bucks Canadian. Which means you should be able to get the same thing for about 450 bucks US.

I had my full blown alarm system (a Clifford) installed for around $500 +/- $50. That was tacked on with a complete stereo system, however, so I'm not sure what kind of a discount they gave me.

That said, $800-$900 sounds like a bit too much.

I had a Directed Electronics Viper unit installed for $599.00. For and extra $100.00, I also had the window kit installed. It allows me to roll the front windows up or down from my remote and automatically rolls them up when I lock the vehicle. It also provides both express up and down on both driver and passenger windows. I like the system. If I have one complaint though it's the remote. The remote does not have recessed buttons. Be carefull you don't roll the windows down in the rain!

Kirk,

The DIC can be programmed to change your settings with the key instead of the wireless keypad. I'm interested in making some changes myself...or sell it and buy something else. Too many H2s in Sac now.

VU,

Just a question...If someone breaks in and drives off in your H2 how far away can they get? Your on an island!! Doc,

Don't you have a new Rover dealer in rocklin now? My buddy just purchased one there and they talked a lot of smack to him about the H2. Told him it was junk and always broken. It pissed off the GM of the dealer when I showed up a day later to pick up my buddy at the service dept with his one day old Rover on a flat bed tow truck. Anyway H2's are the hottest thing out here right now. I live in Elk Grove and I only know of three here. I see a few in Sac but I find the most in GB and Folsom. I will see you around town! BIG-C
