Nobel laureate, I'm surprised that he hasn't been diagnosed with tourette's syndrome or some variation thereof --you know, to uphold the esteemed status bull$hit!

Well my question is, as the testing gets more advanced now that the map is out;
What will happen if/when there are certain "bad genes" detected that may not be so PC or cognitive to our current psychology?
If substantial evidence arises that does in fact reveal certain psychological/physical traits that are infavorable to the population or society itself;
Would the messenger be killed or welcomed?
Would that research be funded?
Hmmm.......Gattaca?

Two words - natural selection
natural selection has been involved in the evolutionary process for thousands of years now. And if you take that theory and base it on the available intelligence gene pool for those who live in developed civilized areas vs those who live in places like Africa.... well you get what I mean. The "average" level intelligence will be below "par" of those who were born in a developed civilized area where more advanced education is the norm.
lets just say, they might be a few thousand years behind the evolutionary curve for the rest of "us" that have been on track with the best of selection that nature has had to offer.
Of course we have trailer parks in the ?developed? areas but I mean ?as a whole? and ?average? developed areas/countries will have a higher intelligence level "as a whole" simply due to the resources avail and health and education.
Dats mah thankin on doe?s matters

Well, mah thankin :D, is that our species has pretty much screwed the natural selection process. I know of no other species that strings along the "weak", per say, as we do via education, charity and health.
In a sense our scientific collaboration and laws have molded the eventual evolution of our species. Kinda how the common culture derived from the wampum (or whoever developed currency) has led to many variants of our survival. Meaning our survival is not based on physical stature as much as it is for other species. Medicine has perpetuated many lives beyond what nature had intended etc.- but but but- only because of intelligence.
The testing of the DNA is currently being tested mainly for health but I am wondering if it will ever be researched and funded for intelligence- which is another main factor in our survival.
So a bad trait can, in theory, designate who would receive such educational or health benefits (ie: scholarships, transplants... the list could go on) if a trait were found to reveal such efforts a burden to such efforts or even evolution. But would the people allow it? Would it become "scientific selection"? Would it so in times of peril or overpopulation?
Or will the health studies even cause controversy, say in so many decades when NFL contracts are billions of dollars, would they test individuals for a certain ligament laxity or some sort of advantagous muscle myofilaments. Would the Cowboys, in addition to performance stats and physicals, genetically test and make it standard procedure for an "elite" team? And would laws allow them to alter their players compensation in light of such a result? Would it be the same for employment in light of intelligence findings?
It's interesting, anyway.:) It's too early in the morning for this stuff.:D

WOW!!! way to early for this...sounds like that movie where they go back in time and arrest people before they commit the crime...

It really is interesting as in how so much as we perceive as the norm could totally change based on genetic bias in the future...
And yep, ima thank'n natural selection is pretty much all but gone now, however this abandonment has only taken place in the last 100ish years - whereas it has existed for 1000s of years which has propelled us into the current age of technology and information age where progress to sustain life has surpassed all expectations from past sceptics.

Maybe natural selection will go full circle and come back around.

Possibly, like after an all out nuclear war, I suppose...
Maybe natural selection will go full circle and come back around.

It's def always too early to think that out.
My guess is that if it is or becomes known that there is an intellegence variance amoung the races we would never find out. No government would want to fund it in fear of being blamed Hitleresque and the research findings would not yield any compensation to an individual research company, and no one would want to be the messenger.
We'll probably never know.
