Removing LE steps?

Does anyone know if you can remove LE steps without loosening the sliders? I might be able to trade my chrome steps for a set of LE steps. The truck that has the LE steps does not have the cut-outs in the rocker panels.

Also, if the sliders need to be loosened to get the steps out, do slider mounting bolts have nuts, or do the bolts just thread into a fixed nut or something?
