View Full Version : I need a pic of the rear diff pinion angle...Please

Is it possible for anyone to take a sideview pic of their rear differential showing the angle of the driveshaft coming out of it?

After all the work I've done, I still have a very minor vibration. Though the rear diff shouldn't have to be adjusted or shimmed with the lift kit, I swear the rear driveshaft has too little pinion angle.

Anyone willing to take a pic for me? Preferable one with a liftkit...

If everything goes well tomorrow, I will get my Orange Crush back from the dealership. They installed the Fabtech lift among other goodies. I drove it today and felt no vibration. I'll try to get a picture of the angle. If you need other pictures, let me know. Everything has been installed except the winch and fender flares. BTW, the dealership took pictures along the way noting things that they had to do (not in instructions). If there is any interest, I'll post them.

Man I appreciate it, if you could get a pic of the angle of the driveshaft coming off the rear diff, I would really appreciate it.

Installing the kit was extremely easy. It was a little time consuming but wasn't difficult. However, for some reason, I'm having to make adjustments that no one else seems to have to do.

Anyway, if you get a chance, that'd be great.

I think you may have to go with either a CV based driveshaft or a double cardan one.

with the lack of angle, it may very well be necc.

I dunno, that angle doesn't look bad at all. I've seen worse. If you don't have vibration I wouldn't worry about it.

Unless its worse than the pic portrays?

Thank you so much. I just realized what my problem is. I have too much pinion angle. There shouldn't be more than .5 degree difference between front and rear pinion angles on the same driveshaft.

I thought I didn't have enough. After stopping at the local Hummer dealership today and looking now at your pics, I see that I have too much. Isn't that wierd? I wonder why mine would have any more than anyone else's?

Nonetheless, I had the driveshaft shop make up ANOTHER driveshaft except as Beastmaster even suggested, I had them make it up with a CV joint style driveshaft.

I agree. It doesn't look bad at all. The vibration is driving me nuts. With the stock driveshaft I had a TERRIBLE vibration at 80-90 mph. I mean it would shudder the entire undercarriage.

I had a new thicker driveshaft made that was 1" longer. (cause the yoke was sticking out at least an inch)

The terrible vibration went away and now I have a minor vibration (like that of a pinion angle being off) at 40-60 mph. I had that same new driveshaft rebalanced and now the vibration starts at 50mph and goes till about 70mph.

I have no idea why I would be having a problem with the same kit that everyone else has. There are no adjustments (eg, shims, torsion bars, etc, etc) to make any difference for the rear driveshaft pinion angle.

I don't know what else to do but have a new driveshaft with CV joints made.

Yeah, yeah, yeah...lol. you keep preaching that but I hate to tell you this but my situation has nothing to do with professional or otherwise install. I've simply got one of those trucks that has a problem. Not any different than when someone says what a POS their vehicle is because they happen to get a lemon. I just happen to have a quirk that I haven't figured out yet.

If you installed your kit, you'd know that this kit is ridiculously easy to install. It's time consuming is all.

I honestly don't think you can screw up the install of this kit barring forgetting to tighten up bolts, cutting the wrong tab off the front diff, etc, etc.

And just for the record, I've had 3 companies that install liftkits and one driveline company check my H2 out. They can't find an answer to my problem neither.

Back to the drawing board.

I think I may have narrowed down my problem. When I had new driveshaft made (not the CV joint one, it's still being made) immediately the 80 mph vibration was gone.

I then had a 40-60 mph minor vibration. I had them rebalance the driveshaft again and the vibration changed to 50-70mph.

Tonight, I undid the ujoint, spun the driveshaft 180 degrees and the vibration is much less. It's basically right as the needle its the 50 mph mark and then goes away in a couple of miles per hour.

I'm thinking the driveshaft place that's balancing my driveshaft has a problem with their balancing machine.

Several years ago, I ran into the same thing and the same shop had the same problem. They replaced the bearings in their machine and it fixed my problem.

I think Monday I will go to another shop across town and have them balance them it and check it out.
