Is there a simple lockable fuel cap available for the H3? I really don't feel like buying a blingbling chrome door for my ride... I would be happy with just a simple lockable cap.

Check with your local auto parts. They make lockable caps. If you need a new door, and as you state don't like the chrome ones, you can get a black one...

Hey sharkster I've found a lockable cap at pepboys for 15.00. If you ask if they have one for it they will say no, but i bought the one on the shelf made for GM cars & it works fine.

Except for that leak that started recently. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Just kidding. I'll have to go check it out.

All the new GM use the new 1/4 turn caps just in case they ask.
It will have the tiny triange in the inside part. It will look not like a screw on type.

I would advise to purchase a reliable brand. The PCM monitors the pressure inside the fuel tank, due to Federal/California Regulations. A leaky fuel cap will result in a code (P0442) being stored and the Service Engine Soon light coming on.
Can't say which one will fit, since GM uses probably twenty different fuel caps for all their vehicles in the last few years. Many look familiar, but they do not fit correctly.
(I just sent myself an email to remind me on Monday to check the GM part number for the H3 gas cap, and cross check to see what other GM vehicles use the same cap. Then post here. This memory stuff gets more difficult as you age.)http://hometown.aol.com/f5fstop01/images/banghead.gif

Cross checking and the gas cap used on the Hummer H3 is the same as used on the H2.

This may sound like a stupid question, but I cannot check this myself, since I don't know anyone owning a H2 here... and we don't have any HUMMER dealers.
I would order the H2 cap directly in the USA, if it is lockable. Thanks for your answer in advance.
P.S.: If the original H2 cap is lockable, does it use a separate key or the ignition key? Because I would have to order an H2 ignition key in that case as well...
... geeez... I only want to lock my goddamn tank... and this starts to become really complicated. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Sharkster,
It appears from the latest offerings from H3Lady that GM has recalled the chrome fuel doors to include the locking cap. That's good news for people who want the cap, but if I recall correctly, you just want the cap. Maybe they'll pop up on the GM site.

My information was for an aftermarket locking fuel cap. I have searched and there has been no reference to the H3; however, there were references for the H2. I was just giving the information for those who were looking for an aftermarket locking fuel cap. Sorry for the confusion.

Ah, okay... So for example the lockable cap of this set (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hummer-H2-SUT-Chrome-Fuel-Trim-Ring-Gas-Cap_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42611QQitemZ4568625 453QQrdZ1) would fit my H3? 100% sure on that?

Yes I should, but, I have a Malamute Puppy (40 pounds and a few months old) that requires some attention too. For all those who think fuel is expensive, Dog food ain't cheap.http://hometown.aol.com/f5fstop01/images/rollingonfloorlaughing.gif
Actually, I have to read the owner's manual so I can figure out the radio, which I might sounds a thousand times better than my Vette's Boze system.

More problems: After doing some research on H2's lockable fuel caps, I found out that even the H2 uses at least three different versions of these caps. Looks like H2s up to 2002 used a different cap than 03 models and 04 models used a different cap again. Why the heck does GM do this?
For example: "Adventure Accessoires" (h2parts.com) has one lockable cap for 03 models (#DEF1012) and a cap for 04-current models (#DEF1009-2), but none for pre03 models. Both caps are being sold at the same price of 159 USD which is (on top of that) ridiculously expensive.
I guess I have to wait until I have the part number for the standard H3 lockable cap which now seems to come with the H3-chromed gas door.
Engineering fuel caps seems to be a real challenge over there at GM. It almost seems like they got dozens of scientists and engineers hidden in a secret GM-lab who think day and night about how to improve fuel caps.
About time someone with common sense walks in there and tells them that A SIMPLE LOCK would be an awesome addition to their genius and highly perfected fuel caps.
But hey... there should always be room for improvement of highly complex 50 cent plastic pieces. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

You sound like me - I am doing the exact same thing after I quit posting - reading the manual...I tried the stereo on the way home and it blew my Bose system out of the water! I may never get back in the house - officailly moving to the garage! My husband is laughing at me - with great envy I can tell...and I haven't even let him drive it yet...
I know. I was shocked as all hell on how good this system sounds. I even had to go into custom and turn down the bass a couple of notches into negative land. I have the right combo now and it sounds awesome.
I'll also add that the auto volume control (road noise increase) works like a champ. I use the low level and it works great even when I have the front windows down with the sunroof open. It kicks!

At least I have discovered how to change the display on the radio for the XM stations. Didn't want to play with the radio on the way home last night, so before leaving I just set in three XM stations I like and took off. Too many small cars on the road and I might have run one over trying to tune in Top Tracks.http://hometown.aol.com/f5fstop01/images/yellow%20rolling%20on%20floor%20laughing.gif

According to the manual (3-63), press the DISP knob while in XM mode to see the four categories - artist, song, category or channel. To change the default, press the DISP knob until you see the display you want, then hold this knob for two seconds. One beep will be heard and your display is now set with your choice.

For anyone who is interested and simply to finalize this thread:
The GM part number for the lockable fuel-cap is #10326376. It is being sold in similiar form for the H2 (same part number). It is pretty small (because it usually goes behind the chrome gas doors) and doesn't look really good, but get's the job done. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Price should be around 50 USD
Thanks again to H3Lady for passing on the GM part number.

It's really ugly... but I value function over design.
