View Full Version : Rear Tire Rubbing inside of fender well

Has anyone else had the problem of the passenger rear tire rubbing a hole into the outer edge of the fender well.
I am running 37" TSL SSR's. I know they rub a little up front on the inside of the frame, but so does the factory tires, so that shouldn't be an issue.
But the other day, I was washing the vehicle, and notice a long rub mark in front of the tire that went all the way thru the plastic fender well.
It looks as if when I am at extreme flex, the rear tire may rub at that point(Maybe when the tire was spinning it made that hole?).
Should there be that much flex?
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Thanks for y'alls help!

Ric,

My theory would be that even though it's tearing up the wheel well, for wheeling it sounds like you are getting the maximum flex possible out of the rear. Many Jeeps that have been customized will run the tire way up into the wheel well and scrub but that is getting the most movement available.

Check your suspension components and make sure nothing is bent or loose. Otherwise you might have to get some rubber material or something to patch that hole, unless you are ready to replace the whole well.

I got that on my WJ when I had it lifted. The rear tires would just stuff and would eventually go through the wells.

Check you bumps stops and susp. compnotents like PAragon mentioned.

I am running 37 BFG MT's and get very slight rubbing at full flex in the rear and on the front sway bar on DR SD only.

If you have the air susp. engaed does it rub?
