For anyone that has crushed a flare, if you need a replacement, I have the stock set here.
You only pay shipping.
I will send all of them to one person but in case there is more than one of you that need a replacement, I would rather you only take what you need.

Taking the flares off and on is not a big deal at all. It's time consuming at most. (even at that, it's roughly an hour'ish job)
Though the plastic can be sanded, you'll never get it completely smooth and it has a great potential to chip if hit by a rock, etc.
Having been in the bodyshop business for over 20 years, we've painted our share of textured plastic. I try to talk the customer out of it when I can.
You can use plastic primers, adhesive promoters, etc but it's like vinyl paint on an interior, it never seems to endure very well.
That's the reason why GM sells the door handle surrounds for instance, Yukons, etc in a smooth paintable style or textured.
Like I said, it's not that it can't be done, it's just not adviseable for daily use, imo.
