View Full Version : H2 or H2 SUT

I have just been told that my Hummer H2 SUV is not repairable and is a write off.

The Chassis has been shunted by 6" forward on the driver side, and therefore technically cannot be repaired.

I will purchase a new one but wanted opinions on what to purchase the H2 or H2 SUT.

Comments and advise would be much appreciated from you guys/girls out in the field.

Ever consider taking cash from the insurance, and then buying a new frame from GM and changing the frame? I've had to change a Hummer frame, and it's not as difficult as it may sound. The total bill parts and labor would be around 8,000. Maybe you can still keep yours and make a little profit at the same time.

Yeh, this is an idea, the insurers over here will write it off, and i will try and buy back then fix and sell. I would have to show them that i have scrapped the chassis, which is not a problem.

But still looking to buy a Black SUT though with the insurance money.

The black looks great on the SUT, that's the way I'd go if I were you.

Scrap it and get the SUT. More useable ( at least for my purposes)

I love my Red Metalic SUT. The only thing I am thinking about, is removing the spare so I can drive with the gate open for larger loads.

Hey Dan, how much time does it take to remove spare? Also, what do you do with the wire for the tag light? One last thing..Did you use the kit to re-attach the tag?

rodster

I kinda like the rear tire carrier but the chrome/plastic tag mount definitely has to go. That custom fab is in the works and the tag will remain on the tire.

I've grown fond of the stealth gray in an SUT, but wouldn't trade my pewter '03 for anything!

It takes all of 20 minutes to do the swap. Tire carrier off, SUV tow loops on. I devised my own plate mount and have a lighted plate frame. I'll get a better pic later & post it for you. In the pic I posted above I have a cheapie light rigged up temporarily.

Is it my imagination or does the outside spare sit up higher on the SUV versus the SUT?

I think you're comparing non-oem with oem tire carriers. On the lot, they seem to be the same.

I'm glad the SUT is offered as an option for those interested. As for me, I have no interest in one, I prefer everything about the SUV, more storage, 3rd seat, but mostly the look. Don't get me wrong, the SUT looks good, the SUV simply looks better.

I think the SUT looks much better, but it is so impractical. What the heck are you going to haul in that trunk? An extra pair of shoes? Does one normally pick up a load of lumber in their SUT?

I like to bring my bikes everywhere I go and I can fork mount them inside a nice LOCKED SUV.

But man...those SUTs looks sweet.

Just to contribute, so far I have hauled:

4x8 sheets of sheetrock
4x8 sheets of plywood
4x8 sheets of concrete backerboard
10' 2x10's
8' 2x4's
8' dining room table AND all 6 chairs
PVC piping
8' couch
arm chair
bags of concrete
bags of fertilizer
bags of play sand
trees
shrubs
leaky yard equipment
camping gear
vacationing baggage
bikes
coolers full of beer
spare
and a ton more **** I can't remember

Most of which would have toasted the inside of an SUV. Damn thing is so impractical... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

The pic I promised of my mounting. The plate frame is lighted and is wired thru the back. You can see where my temp light setup hacked up the plastic a bit...

Hummer Guy - approx 100 - 150 SUV's & SUT's flying around Kuwait at the moment. It seems that not many white face guys have them, mainly ARAB's have them, so when pulling up to a restaurant, shopping mall, valet parking you get some funny looks - pretty good stuff though.

I am looking at Black SUT 0 Miles, but they want $62K for it, imported from US. I will get around $45K for mine from insurance if i am lucky.

Thanks for the comments and advise, it looks like a SUT it will be then.

Love my SUT. The back with the cover is great too. When we go camping or biking it works out well since it's just the two of us and the dogs.

the SUT with the bike rack looks sweet.

My son and I also have bikes and it is more practical than a SUV, 2 Mountain Bikes dont fit inside, and keeps all the crap on the outside.
Sweet SUT also. love the colour.

Hey Tim, Where did you get the bed rack from? Is it a custom fab? Also, does the tonneau cover open with rack on? Looks awesome!

What Ken said plus, yes, the tonneau cover still functions perfectly and opens fully. The rack comes with beefier cover shock/lifters (very easy to swap with the OEM).

The edges of the rack straddle the bed sides so it doesn't rely on the strength (or lack thereof) of the cover to hold it. It's easily strong enough to hold a full grown person or two and makes a nice step (bumper/bed/roof) to a roof rack if you have one.

One other factoid: The rack mounting hardware is designed so it can be mounted on top of the tonneau cover or, if you don't have a cover, in the rails on the bed sides.

You'll probably have to talk to Gobi about that. To the best of my knowledge only two racks have been made so not sure if they've firmed-up pricing.

Hi all,

Finally got my insurance sorted out and managed to get a pay out on a total loss of $37K, so i have now purchased another H2 SUV - SUT's are over $68K here in Kuwait.

Here is a couple of pictures of my new ride, should be collecting on Sat or Sun.

Cheers for your comments, and look forward to chasing some more jeeps in Kuwait with my Hummer buddies.
