Hey all. I'm an H3 noobie. just wanted to say hi. my background includes Open Track racing in my 450bhp Cobra Convertible. I've been involved in autosports for a long time and consider myself a do-it-yourselfer.

Its been a long time since i've owned a cool offroad truck/suv. But when i saw the H3, I thought it 'just awsome'. I love it.

i've owned the H3 for about a week now and i must say that the 5 banger is lacking in the HP/TQ department. Also I feel the brake/gas pedal is a little too close together. But other than that, I love it in every way. I have the 'Adventure' package.

Now for my first question: I would like to improve the performance a little. Would a K&N FIPK (aircharger) work. K&N claims 18rwhp, but i've been around and I'm not sure i'm totally buying the claim. Suggestions?

PS: i'm not ready to gut the exhaust yet, so just 'bolt-on' suggestions for the time being...

thanks all! and happy to be on your boards!!!

Congrats and welcome. Great choice in color and package http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Your best bet on finding info here is to try the find button at the top of the thread first. Most topics have been covered before and some so many times that you might find people get aggravated with them. There have been some who added the K&N filter and didn't notice any difference but not sure if that is what you are talking about with the K&N FIPK. Good luck though.

Welcome and congratulations! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The brake and gas pedals is a pain felt by all...

As for the FIPK. As I understand from people that have spent the $$$ it is NOT worth it and causes too many issues. Use the FIND button.http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif FIND is your friend. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Again, welcome and congrats! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Converted 2 to dual exhaust and added the K&N to both, other than sounding alot better, there was not a "noticeable" increase in Torq/HP/Speed. But when we ran it against another none converted unit, they both were able to "pull" away from the line and from an even pace while moving.

wow. no gain from a CAI. that sux. thanks.

PS: if your really aggrivated by the pedal position, I would suggest removing the rubber boot from the brake pedal, cut off an inch from the right side, then get some nice aftermarket pedal covers and simply offset the brake cover when bolting it on...

yes, like other forums, search/find is your friend. LOL

Not good. So since i see your a 'hummer veteran', what have you found that produces gains? (besides a blower).

Its not fast. It never will be. Enjoy the Cobra for that! (I love that car! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif)

Take your H3 off road and you will see it in its perfect element. All the slowness and road oddities will make perfect sense. Love your H3 for what it is. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have thought about doing this and believe at least one other member did. Good idea.

Congrats on the new H3. I'm running Corsa exhaust system on my H3 and power difference is marginal. Intake systems generate more noise than power and may allow in more dirt and dust.

TO ALL WHO READ AND HAVE EYES...

Your H-2 already has COLD AIR INTAKE

POP YOUR HOOD, OPEN THE AIR FILTER COVER, LOOK AT THE FRESH AIR HOSE FEEDING THE BOX COMING FROM THE RIGHT FENDER AREA..

IT IS "NOT" DRAWING HOT AIR FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT

LOL. yep. and i'm sure most here realize that. My stock cobra pulled cold air via a boot, but some would say a true CAI puts the air filter in a location other than the engine bay. Personally I dont care, I was just looking for a little more HP/TQ and a little MPG would be nice. Here is a pic of a true CAI homes: http://www.blacksnake305.50megs.com/images/Chris/DSC00758.jpg

As for power and what i want to do w/ it. I fully understand what the H3 is about, but with that said, when your using a 5-banger to pull 4700lbs, more power is always nice...

i've got 1400 miles on my H3 and i am noticing a little more zip the more miles i put on it. i did add the k&n kit and noticed it a little but not much. when the rpm's hit 3700 it preforms with much more excitment. besides dumping a buch of cash in it there isnt much YET.

Slate,

Your right !

Prob shouldn't have CAPed the reply, didn't mean to come on so strong.

My 289 (original) Cobra of many years ago had a custom box made for cold air direct and it did help.

I have learned a lot from this site and putting it together with my old hot rod days convinced me the H-3 is the way to go.

Just look at it this way...

The H-3 has a EXTRA CYLINDER over those others with a 4 banger...

Good luck

ducky: its cool

All: thanks for the warm welcome. Now for something for you to laugh at (and maybe appreciate):

so many mornings I drop my daughter off at daycare, today I thought i didn't have to so I fired up the cobra for some spirited driving (not summer here yet). then my wife begs me to drop the baby girl off AGAIN. i got pissed at first (since i handle most all the baby duties), but then I remembered I have my new baby HUM-VEE sitting in the driveway and I got real happy (not that i'll tell the wife that). HAHA.

i've put alot of time/love into my cobra, but the hummie is stealing some of that love away! Maybe the hummie should get the cobras spot in the garage... haha i'm thinking... i'm thinking...

PS: i've noticed my hummie has loosened up a bit as well. Seems a little peppier as of late (and i've only owned it a week). And its no BS, as i've spent years executing auto modifications, time on the dynos and my SOTP meter is pretty accurate. LOL

cool air intake is worthless, and only gives you a throaty growl which is cool. supercharger or k&n is really the only way you are gonna eek more performace out of the engine with the 4800 lbs it has to pull around.

my Cobra is a real SVT Cobra and I am the original owner. It will be paid off in Oct. That is one less $500 payment that I will never have to worry about again...
