How good are the standard (factory) tires?

I understand tires from a sports car view point and how they can dramatically increase the cars abilities but new to off-roading and Hummers not sure about Off-Road tires. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
I have the adventure series tires on my H3 and they seem just fine to me. A Ranger told me they were crap and to get some new ones around 10,000 miles. Like I said, I don't know the difference but have heard that factory tires can be cheap sometimes.
Are the factory tires good tires?
Any recommendations for new ones? I don't care about smooth ride and noise, I like traction for both on and off-roading.
Another thing, I will be taking the H3 snowboarding and here in Washington state we can put screws in our tires. Can you give me any pro's/con's to those types of tires?

Generally the rule of thumb with tires is the better they are off road the worse they are on road. As grip increases off road it decreases in the rain on road. I have a set of GY 31" MTR's. Great for wheeling. pretty good in the sand, better in the mud but god help me if I'm on the higway and try to stop quickly in the rain. Dry pavment stopping is ok but it still dosent compare to a set of all weather tires.

I think what you need to keep in mind is how will the H3 be driven more off road or more on road.I do more highway driving so I opted for Michelin LTX M/S 33 inch tires.Tires are all a matter of driving habits.If you can find a happy place all the power to ya.

Not sure what you mean by adventure series tires?
The standard tires are Goodyear Wrangler RTS, and from my experience they are ok on the roads, but not all that great off-road (actually, terrible from my experiences in the Jeep).
The off-road suspension package adds Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires, and from talking with people who have had these tires, and off-roaded them, they are a very good mix of on road/off-road tire. In fact, some have told me from their experiences that they are as good as BGF AT tires off-road. (Don't burn me BFG lovers, I'm only passing on information from people I trust.)
I have no personal experience with either of these tires (except what I have driven on my Hummer), but I do know that when replacement time comes, I will purchase Yokohama Geolander HT Plus, if they have this size.

As others have already stated, getting a good balance between what is require for pavement versus sand/mud/gravel, etc., is tough.

the adventure tires are bridgestone duelers or something.. specifically made for the h3.. they are awesome so far for me... no complaints

I think someone on this forum has gone farther. Try the technical area. Howevever, if you go larger, the speedo will be off. Two sizes would be about 6-8 percent off. Therefore when the speedo shows 70, you might be doing 75.

I took a quarter size chunk out of one of the lugs today. I will swap these out sooner than I wanted to. Esp. since I was off roading in "her" truck. DAMN.

I had some bad tires when I got my H3, I replaced all 5 with Bridgestone. MADE A WORLD OF DIFFERECE. The factory ones are just OK...

I had a vibration with an early thread I did and it turned out to be the tires.

I do a bunch of the Hummer Happenings for the dealers and the so called Adventure Series Tires you are talking about, the bridgestone duelers or whatever work very well. They are the best tire I have seen that are stock to the Hummer models that work very well onroad and offroad. I have over 8500 miles on the tires and I would say just under half have been on the rocks, in the mud, some sand, and a mixture of loose rock and dirt terrain.
