View Full Version : Is H1 an old people vehicle?

MAC

In the Hummer factory magazines, there were photos of the gatherings of H1s. I noticed most H1 owners are old bald fat people. Is that the case? H1 owners are older? does H1 make you go bald and fat? does it make you look older? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

As we all know kids love and crazy about H2, those hip-hop or sports-stars, fair to say H2 is youthful. When young people talk about Hummer, they pretty much are talking about H2 exclusively. I never had an auto kids envy and get excited about. Kids don't get excited about S500, S600, SL or Jaguar. I actually love that youthful attraction, trying to connect with my teenagers. I don't sense the same kind of excitement nor attraction toward H1. Is H1 an old people's automobile?

Personally when I see a black H1, I couldn't take my eyes off it, while pretending I am not looking. Generally black color ones only. It is getting harder and harder to see a H1 these days, used to be daily.

Its a good midlife crisis vehicle. Besides, average income folk are old, fat, and bald by the time they can afford one.

Hey. WTF, over? How did I get in here??

I don't think it is an old person's vehicle, just a vehicle for nutcases... http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Seriously though, there are a lot of snobby assed H1 owners who hate H2s with a passion. There are also defectors like Buckeye. He helps people not be fat, so maybe he is bucking Mac's trend

I was down in Kentucky over X mas and saw a H1 and flashed the lights at him and he flashed and waved back. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I had a feeling you were going to anger me by showing a water pick. We just don't have any agua out here you lucky SOB. That is cool terrain.
Who put the can opener on your rock rails? It looks like something grabbed and pulled. Here is a pic of my rails I had installed about a month ago. They're steel, not aluminum and have taken some nice hits without even a dent.

THe rock rails were just diamond plate crap that AMG used to put on some of these. I will be putting Rubber Duck's Rock Tubes on soon. This was just the fun way of removing the old stuff. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This is at Kinzalow Trails in TN. The National Club will have an event here in May. You should come out. All the H1 guys say that these are pretty much the most hardcore trails on this side of the country. BTW, we had to leave the H2 at the hotel. You know, tie rods and all. (Does this make me a troll?)

You're a hop, skip and a jump from my hometown of Columbus too damn far from L.A.

More dry stuff. This was a pretty scary climb. You know the type. You get out to see what's in front of you and you can't get the damn door open, darn gravity.

Actually, Travis was the trail leader. The trail was badly deteriorated and he couldn't make it up. We spent several hours rescuing him from this nearly disastrous situation. He got winched up the hill, and the rest of us got to go back out the river AT NIGHT http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I was the only one there with a locker (rear only). The TT4 vehicles had a pretty difficult time there.

Glad you are enjoying them. Hope this helps you make up your mind about getting an H1. No offense to the H2s, but most of these trails will destroy an H2 without a good lift and beefy tie rods.

MAC,
Depth would have been somewhat of an issue, but the undercarriage would have been a bigger issue. My rocker panels slammed down on big rocks so hard in places I thought I was going to lose a filling or two! I'm glad my old truck has the steel rocker panels vs. aluminum. We did end up with about 6" or so of water in the floorboards. H2 guys would have had to had scuba gear while changing tie rods.

My experience has show that many young kids can spot an H1 a mile away. And they know what it is. The parents usually don't. High School Kids know the difference between and H1 and H2 (after they discover the prices) and they favor the H1... and would like to have one............... remember those days........ when you were invinceable........

Old, my posterior, (Cleaned up for the baby H2 ears), I'd say that of all of the older H1 owners I've met most are the most active and fun people you can hang with. I'd love to see a "2" going down that river. (Oh my god I might get mud on my floor mats...) Holcomb was simple compared to JBT, it was fun, the water crossing was a blast and some of the obstables were worthy. 2N12X was exhausting, and after that Holcomb was a breeze.
