Our youngest granddaughter is now 6 months old and a little over 20lbs. ( yep we grow them big).. I presently don't have timeto research on the web. hopeing someone already has..

Read your seat instructions first. You can also go to your local fire department and they will show you how to PROPERLY install your baby seat (it's really worth it).

I think we turned my son around at 35 lbs.

As a cop you would think I would know this.. I can tell you how to do an entire for a drug raid. When my kids were small you just threw them in the back and yelled hang on and I'm only 50.. My son has two little ones on 2 1/2 and one 9 months.. He had an opinion, just trying to find facts.. I attempted to phone the baby's doctor. but it is Wed. and not an emergency..

It really depends more on the size of the kid than the age. And it depends what brand/model carseat you have. The best advice is to RTFM. Go to the manufacturer website & download the instructions. Ask your pediatrician too.

Both of mine went forward-facing at about 30lbs.

okay this is my area

you can turn the little ones around after they have reached 20lbs and they should stay in the rear of the car in the MIDDLE if you have the room!

The whole problem is the lack of neck muscle development. So you can understand that a rear collision would kill a baby if turned around the other way.

AND a child should be in a booster seat until the age of 12! YES 12!!! (just to prop the hips up enough to allow the shoulder straps to control the upper torso in the event of a crash. But how many 12 year olds could you get to sit on a booster seat!! LOL!!

A car seat is a serious topic and should be taken seriously. So take the time to be sure your kid's seat is put in properly.

Thanks.. Mia is 6 months old. is over 20lbs and has control of her neck muscles. We are considering the forward ride because the little Princess is a pain in the butt when trying to take her for a ride. Even around the corner she starts to howl.. Grandma spoiled her. I will continue to investigate to get the right info.

We turned our baby around at 24lbs. She loves it.
The eight yr. old is such a superball in a concrete room it is hard enough to keep his seat belt on him. One day if the little hampster catches me in a bad mood and removes his seat belt and if there are no cars around and he will not get hurt, I just may pump the brakes real hard to show him how important seat belts are. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Mike, being in the medical field I always like to follow the researched guidlines of the national organizations although state law may very slightly. I'll pass along the link to the gold standard on car seat safety. My 7 year old daughter sits in the back seat and uses the regular seat belt in the Hummer but I attatched the clip to lower the shoulder belt.

Yep we are in the medical field too and I just cannot stress the importance of getting the little ones in a safe seat and vehicle!

Absolutely agree.. the little monsters need to be seated properly. After all they are our grand daughters ( In the old days we could just make a new kid, grand kids take cooperation from others).. Thank you for all the info.. I was looking for a site from the industry.. Thanks again.
