Scratched bumper

Some idiot backed into the rear side bumper at work today. Plenty of their tail light on the ground below my bumper. And of course, they didn't leave a note.

The only damage to the H3 is a small scratch on the black metal bumper near the license plate (which I've just about rubbed out and covered with a black Sharpie). However, the black plastic piece with the little groves has a bit of a mark on it. I tried to rub it out, but it still looks kind of white.

Any suggestions on how to get it out? Maybe slightly heat it with a hair dryer? I know that the Avalance owners used to get scratches out of their cladding that way.

Save the pieces as evidence(find the turd that did it)and chalk up the scratch as a character mark.

H3 Hummer... you are no poser. I can't help but feel a little disgusted when I see vehicles obviously geard for off road... without a scratch or a ding on them. Since mine is black I'm thinking of just going ahead and getting that spray lineX stuff on the fenders and lower parts of the door. Just orderd a CO2 tank... when we going out again?

here's a tip I learned when I used to work at an airport. if its plastic, you can take out a lotta scratches and imprefections with metal/aluminum polish (mother's works awesome)
I once had a vehicle broken into, and the bastards scratched up the dash. took a lil elbow grease and mother's alum. polish, but I got it to where you couldn't even tell anymore! give that a try! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I took my wife's hairdryer, cranked it up, and gently heated the area. I then quickly took a dark cloth and rubbed the scuff mark. Presto. No more scratch.
