Here we are, a few of us airing down and getting geared up to hit the trail.

Group shot...notice we were out-numbered by H1's...seems the H2 may just be more pavement-princess oriented? WHERE ARE YOU GUYS???

Steve R

The little club is growing....now over 50 members strong....we don't just "take" to the trail....we descend upon it!!!!

I pity the mountain biker who comes around the corner too fast!

MANY THANKS TO CRAIG AND STEVE!!!!!! Had a great time. One of my favorite moments was towards the end as we were crossing the ranch and doing a quick ascent we could actually see traffic almost coming to a stop on the freeway below as they watched us go up the hill. Looking foward to another fun ride. Hey where are all you H2's out there???? Come on Heehaw! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

We got hassled by "The Man"...where was Heehaw when we needed him? Actually...the forest ranger was looking for a couple of bears that apparently swiped some picnic baskets...we couldn't help him...

The Subman...Alan...despite tearing a ligament in his right knee...he made it...talk about dedictation!

Steve R
03-23-2003, 04:26 AM
We then concluded lunch and again began our explorative journey into.....say what??? just show the pictures and spare the details?...okay:

Here's a burned area we came into....a bit strange

Steve R

This group does everything together...here we are ALL OF US doing the sideslope!

Steve R
03-23-2003, 04:31 AM
We all sense there is greater challenge around...so Alan jumps atop his H1 and starts searching.

I wander around and quickly discover the Moab-like back-area just below us. I was just about to move my H2 down to the rocks for an awesome shot...when Craig sees what I'm upto and gets to his H1 before I can blink an eye. No sooner...I'm spotting him. This hill was nasty-steep...but that didn't stop the fearless Craig!

Steve R

and over the into the steepest part

Steve R
03-23-2003, 04:33 AM
So I'm about to go get my H2...when Subman follows suit and comes on down too

Steve R
03-23-2003, 04:34 AM
Suban (Alan) quickly finds a line and puts himself atop the rocky-point

Craig looks for someway to out-do Subman...IMPORTANT/INTERESTING please notice how the pic looking down shows what appears to be a shallow rock to get upto Subman...watch and see just how steep and big that rock is! That will give you an idea just how deceiving pics can be (in looking tame and mellow)

Steve R

almost there

and makes it! (look easy)

Steve R

We played around these rocks and then moved back into the hills. At one point we had to go through a farmers property (just barely) and we moved with stealth graceness....

We then came to the big climb....Craigs inclinometer almost got buried into the 45-degrees mark!!!

Be sure to check out the red Hummer at the very very very top of the hill climb....even pics can't steal the steepness of this climb. It was a lot steeper then the pics shows you!

As Ole Yellr pointed out: just behind us was the freeway.....you could actually see a big traffic slow-down (from 70mph to maybe 30mph) and everybody slowing down big-time to watch our Hummer-pack work our way up this nasty hill.

Steve R

Here's Peter cresting the top of this trail: 4Lo-locked, rear locker engaged, height-control on to reduce bottoming-out due to abrupt change in terrain (40-degrees to flat)

quick shot of me on the trail

Steve R
03-23-2003, 04:55 AM
then, miles later, we came to challenging area: Subman decided to unleash the monster!

Steve R
03-23-2003, 04:55 AM
....and

Steve R
03-23-2003, 04:56 AM
...and makes it (okay....I missed the final shot...but he catapulted up there too quickly)

And btw...yes, I tried to do this...but my bumper would have taken a beating and I'd have bottomed out even with height-control on. Bottom line: this is where the line is drawn between H1 and H2: (deal with it)

On an honest side-note, we did have a bit of a problem. An H1 encountered a broken rear A-arm on one of the very first obstacles...big-time bummer!!!

Dana and his lovely wife Wendy just bought this incredible rig and were taking it out for the first time. One of the wheels got a bit of air and...well....you know. They are the nicest couple and we all wish them a quick recovery and hopefully will join us soon!

Here is the hill where it happened (shown with an H1 coming down it)l The very top has a HUGE rut where one of his tires was way up in the air and we figure the TT4 grabbed it and tore the rear apart.

BUT....he did get offroad. The tires left the road when the tow-truck hauled it up!

rear shot...very nice air-brushing! (you can really see the rear driver side damage to the wheel). Good thing it happened relatively close to the fireroad. Big-time thanks to Subman for his excellent recovery tactics!

HUMMER....#1

Please notice 2 things: That's me wearing the official H2 Club shirt (excellent quality, great feel)...and that's also me weighing about 25 pounds LESS then when I first started the club.

Oh yeah...and MAC....new shorts too!
