Re: How low can you go....
I think we are seeing the folks with the 5-speed tranny getting the good mileage here.
I get very close to 18 mpg pulling a flatbed trailer with two ATV's. I also have a rooftop hardshell cargo box for added resistance. I keep it at 70 mph or less. I run premium gas and Mobil 1 oil. Come on 5-speeds lets toot our own horns! (not to mention the crawl ratio) oops did I say that out loud? |

Yup. 5-speed manual. I am fairly casual driver. No strong starts. I run 87-octane gas. Under 75 on the highway. Commute to work (25 minutes) is mostly highway. Not very much stop and start. After about 8 fill ups (about 3600 miles on her), I average just above 19mpg. Can't complain. |
Re: How low can you go....
Avg 17 to 18 MPG once 19 with Auto Trans and cold air mod...:beerchug:

Re: How low can you go....
From Florida to Arizona I got as much as 21 mpg using air occasionally doing 65 to 70 mph.
I have an automatic tranny. |
Re: How low can you go....
Going to and from work and riding around in town I just calculated 19 mpg this morning. I guess they knew what they were doing putting the I-5 into a 4 ton vehicle; acceleration off the line is very strong IMHO, even though I don't do a lot of jackrabbit starts. I use Mobil synthetic also.
I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever at 14,000 miles. Only thing that bugs me is the rear seats don't lay down flat, no rear AC vents for passengers and I need a rear view cam. I backed into and ran over a mailbox yesterday; not a scratch though. |
Re: How low can you go....
On a recent trip I got 17mpg w/o trying.
The A/C was one on, 70-75mph, no cruise control on. The truck was loaded not me. After a long stretch (150 miles+) of dirt roads and a high pass we filled up and I still had 14 gallons in the tank! I got real similar mileage to my friend's V6 Toyota 4-Runner and I kept telling him my truck weighs more, bigger tires and FT 4x4. |

July 4th weekend holiday drive back from Blacksburg VA, to upstate NY. About 416 miles on the tank of gas when Low Fuel indicator came on. first pic - still has room to go (over 400 miles), second pic (hard to see) 418.8 miles when I pulled into the gas station after a mile of two with low fuel. Filled up the tank. I think it was just over 20 gal.

Re: How low can you go....
I have about 7500 miles on my 3 now and I average 19.5 mpg. I drive 105 miles per day round trip to/from work. Two lane higways mostly. Never have a chance to go over 60 mph.

Re: How low can you go....
I was getting around 19 mpg with stock tires. Now that I jumped to 35s I get 15/16 mpg, around 320 miles on a tank. Not a huge hit in mpg, but I really don't care because i love the look and the compliments I get on the 35s. Just curious, what size tires is everyone running when they post their mpg.

Re: How low can you go....
when u guys test your mileage, do you wait until the low fuel light comes on? or when it just hits "e"?

I agree...I have no idea how you guys all get such great gas mileage (relatively speaking) and I get such ****ty mileage. The MOST I have ever gotten is maybe 16 and I average around 12 or 13. Could the reason be is that I live and drive in Southern California????? |
Re: How low can you go....
just refilled today, second or third tank after 35s, and my milage is improving. had 10.??? before now i got 10.776. :dancingbanana: hehe.

Re: How low can you go....

In defense of Moyello, I think he was commenting on him NOT caring about the change in his gas milage after changing tires. |
