Re: Hot Shot Washer Fluid Heater
doubt it...I don't think it's hot enough to do that....you'd have a better chance of getting a rock chip than to have the water break the windshield...

Re: Hot Shot Washer Fluid Heater
I do see a problem with the prime in the unit, but not under normal operation. If primed correctly upon initital install, the check valve should keep the unit filled, since it prevents the fluid from flowing back to the reservoir.
However, the auto mode, automatically squirts the fluid onto the windshield from the Hotshot unit. Unless the hotshot unit also has a pump to draw fluid from the reservoir, it would run out of fluid, till you manually pushed the washer switch to push fluid from the reservoir to the unit. I will call hotshot today, since their technical support website does not work and ask. The ones equipped on vehicles from GM are incorporated into the entire washer system. |

Thank you. Yeah I have had my share of rock chips. |
Re: Hot Shot Washer Fluid Heater
I was going to wait and go with one of the new wireless units that they showed at SEMA, but it sounds like the wired version doesn't even work that well.
Hmmm... |

Re: Hot Shot Washer Fluid Heater
They only have one tech, so he is supposed to call back....:clapping:
I may just run warranty on these and see how many GM has replaced. I'm getting curious, but I have to admit, one tech, website does not work....does not sound promising. |

I believe the hotshot only includes the heating unit, that's why you have to prime it before use, or else you burn it out. I just pulled my old one out and put a new one in - straight swap of the heating unit...still doesn't work. When I pulled the old unit, it still had tons of washer fluid in it, so I don't believe there's a reason to have to prime it all the time. I've checked fuses and they look ok. Swapped the switch and still no luck.... I'm really enjoying my wife's LR3's heated windshield.... :) |

I guess you like the LR3? They seem very nice. I'd probably like the heated windshi... I mean "windscreen" since we're talking about an LR, until it had to be replaced from stone damage... I got away with an H2 windshield for only $225. |

Yeah, that's the only thing that sucks about it...I've heard it's about $1000 for a replacement... |

I like the heated windshield idea. Very cool (no pun intended). It's rare that you have to replace one, but if you do, most replacements can be covered by insurance.
The manufacturer of this system absolutely guarantees that no ice will accumulate on the windshield...ever! :giggling: Attachment 33956 |

That's all? A HUD windshield replacement on a Corvette was over $1500, and for a GP with a HUD, it was $1100.00. |
Re: Hot Shot Washer Fluid Heater
Here is another alternative if you live in Canada. They might ship to the U.S. too, but I am not certain.

Re: Hot Shot Washer Fluid Heater
Mine stopped working a while ago. I played with it a little, and actually replaced it with another that was sitting in my garage. Still doesn't work. Not sure what's going on...haven't had the time to look at it again either.

Hey Doc, I'm pretty sure I know why your Hot Shot isn't working. If I recall correctly my Hot Shot was haveing the same problem as yours. I called Webasto and they couldn't figure it out so they sent me a new unit but I still had the same problem. Then it hit me :twak: It was a bad ground. I moved teh ground to a solid ground and that solved the problem. It works perfect since last winter. :perfect10s: I did a write up on the Hot Shot install but I can't locate it. I was able to locate teh write up I did on teh install of the fix kit which is needed for H2's if anyone needs it here ya go: http://elcova.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f...241#4141080241 |
Re: Hot Shot Washer Fluid Heater
OK guys....need some help here. Was going to install a HotShots unit before the snow flies and while doing some research, found out that due to a MAJOR recall on GM vehicle, Microheat, the maker of HotShots has filed for bankruptcy. E-bay has one but in lieue of the recall (units catch fire) I'm reluctant to purchase one.
Anybody know of another manufacture for heated windshield washer fluid. I tried the link on here for Canadian Tire but can't seem to find a system on their site...I'll continue to look. As an FYI, I'm looking for one for my H2. |
