I'm not joking, I'm getting one. I think it's a neat idea and I can't stand the stock knob. The stupid insert in the handle moves and is driving me crazy. And I still am looking for info on getting the stock one off. :)
Ease up on me for wanting one. Someone can post their opinion once if you don't like it, but to come back more than once to continue that point of view is only making me feel bad for wanting one, and maybe others who are not posting. |

It says to never pull on the shift boot, because it may damage the shift boot retainers. The weird thing is that this procedure is to remove the entire shift lever, not the shifter knob itself. :confused: I haven't found where it shows the removal of just the shifter knob. :( |

I don't care for the rock knob, but to each his own.
I don't know how to remove the knob, but I took a look at it just now. The top of the knob is a chrome piece (with the shift diagram) surrounded by shiny black trim. You can pry this off with your fingernails by pulling gently up under the trim. Comes off real easy. Underneath is a metal piece in the center of the knob, about the size of a nickel. It's crossed by a shallow groove. I don't know if the groove is for a screwdriver (seems too shallow for that) but maybe that's how you remove the knob. Btw, you can tighten the insert by bending the attachment pegs slightly out. Be careful ... they're not very strong. |

Usually a small allen key is used with a manual shift knob.

Thanks for looking into it Slate, I appreciate it. I'll go check your thread, H3less. And thanks to the others posting info about how to get the knob off. I'll go yank that chrome thing off and see what's under it.

I can't get my fingernail under it. Mine seems to be on there pretty snug. Gonna see what I have in my toolbox that is thin enough to fit in there. I'll let you know.

Bunch of blingy mofos... I've thought they were pretty cool looking and DIFFERENT since I first saw 'em, but they won't work to well in an auto truck..
FWIW, I'd stay away from the Moab Rock.. I've heard the rocks around there are kinda radioactive.. FWIW... If you've got your own rock, you should be able to get a masonary bit in a drill press and SLOWLY drill it out and epoxy in a metal sleeve to go on the shifter.. Would be a bit cheaper, but it'd chew up a whole lotta time.. |

I got out to look at it in more detail. The boot is pressed into the center console. Pull up on the back of the trim piece that surronds the bottom of the boot and the rear slots pop out. Then pull the whole boot to the rear and the front slots pop out. Then lift the whole boot up and over the shift knob. There is a rubber o-ring that holds the boot into a slot and secures it just below the shifter knob. Pry the o-ring out and the boot comes loose and you can slide the boot down the shifter shaft. From this point though, I see no way to get the shifter knob off. There is no noticeable allen key or anything holding it onto the shaft. If I pop the top trim piece like Wisha says, there is a metal piece there with a slot in it, but it is very shallow. I don't believe this is meant to put a screwdriver in. It looks like the shifter handle is just pressed down onto the shaft. I tried twisting and pulling on it but it's not budging. Any suggestions?
